Finding time often involves adjusting to your own particular needs and style. I recently had an interesting response to one of my Finding Time Tips.
The tip was:
TIP: Tap the power of visualization to help coordinate your life.
ACTION STEP: Review your to-do list before going to bed, and visualize your next day. If your ‘trial run’ reveals possible logjams, jot down ways to overcome them. You’ll sleep better!
In her response to my tip, Julie wrote:“I like visualizing as a way to ‘plan’ but doing it right before bed does not help my sleep. It just makes my mind run with contingency planning and things to remember, even if I write them down.”
Here’s my response to Julie’s dilemma:I’ve got several suggestions for you to try!
If visualizing your plan the night before keeps you awake, try another angle. For example, at night you might want to find an affirmation and repeat it like a mantra before sleep. It could be something like, “I sleep deeply and awake refreshed.” You might find this very helpful as a nightly ritual.
Also, try planning in the morning. For your visualization, try finding one area that you’re excited about … or even apprehensive about. Visualize yourself being successful or plan by making a list without visualizing.
Good luck – and let me know how this works for you!

It’s the end of another week and I’m working on finding time. I’m guessing that, like me, you’ve needed to let go of some plans, while finding time for unforeseen new tasks. Our lives fluctuate while time, like a river, continues steadily along its course. As I noted the other day, Time is absolute, concrete and universal.
What if life throws you a curve ball and you need to re-prioritize, and end up missing an important deadline … thereby losing a project? Your loss is final. You may work on a different project, but this particular one is gone, along with everything that might have followed from it. The river of time flows on.
Every time choice you make affects your life’s course. This is so very important! Sometimes the choice may seem insignificant – sometimes quite dramatic. Always, though, the time choice and its impact are meaningful. When you are clear about this, you can be in charge of your direction in exciting and empowered ways!
How have specific time choices changed the flow of your life?

Time finds me greeting a beautiful June morning, and enjoying a quiet moment. The clock ticks. Morning light moves up my windowpane. Whether we measure our days by the clock or the position of the sun … we all exist in time.
Time is absolute, concrete and universal. We live within the 24 hours we have each day. No more. No less. Time is the great equalizer. No matter who we are or what we do, we each receive this precious gift of time. It’s the same amount each day for every day we are alive. And once we spend time, it is gone. Lost opportunities may be followed by new ones, but those particular opportunities are gone for all time.
How do you feel about this? What words come to mind when you consider how finite time really is? How do your values and your time intersect? Where do they diverge?
What are your plans for today?

My name is Paula Eder and I’m The Time Finder.
In January 2006 I first published my Finding Time E-zine. Now it’s June 2008. The E-zine is going strong, and I’m very excited to be launching The Time Finder Blog!
Abraham Joshua Heschel said, “Time is the heart of existence.”
Pondering those words, or looking at the Time Finder mascot (my beloved Maltese Zeke), I add that the heart of existence is finding time for what matters most!
Whatever that is for each of us … we need to make time for the important things … so that we can live fully and without regret.
How do you approach time? Do you embrace it as your friend? Do you sometimes feel driven by time, as if it were your enemy?
These are the kinds of questions, observations, and insights that I want to share with you at The Time Finder. Please join our discussion and our community.
