Find Time for AutoHotKey and … Find More Time!

Finding time to make the most of your writing time is a perennial challenge. If you’re a blogger, or if you have an online business that involves lots of communication, you’re probably at the keyboard quite a bit!  And if your business depends on connecting with your customers, you will want to be able to respond to them quickly – AND you will definitely want your communication to be accurate and typo-free.

Well, quite some time ago – in 2009 actually – I wrote about a tool called AutoHotKey.  (Here’s the post if you’d like to go back and read it.)  Since that time, my VA has been using AutoHotKey for a lot of her work, and is finding it very helpful as a time-saving tool!

So that’s why I felt it was worth mentioning again. It’s a free tool that you download from the AutoHotKey website, and it gives you the ability to create your own customized hotkeys. They will increase the speed and accuracy of your work, especially when it comes to frequently-repeated tasks.  That, in turn, will free up more of your time for thinking, creating, developing products … or even for some refreshing and relaxing “me” time!

If there are phrases, product names, or lengthy words that you regularly use, AutoHotKey saves you having to type them repeatedly.  In addition, if there are words that you regularly misspell, you can use this tool to automatically correct them. This is much more helpful than the automatic spellcheckers that are loaded into programs like Microsoft office in that you can customize AutoHotKey to correct the words that only YOU struggle with!

Another nice feature of AutoHotKey is that it isn’t simply for single words or brief phrases. You can actually enter fairly lengthy passages that are then automatically added to documents with the press of your designated hotkeys.

According to my VA, who has explored it extensively, this tool is extremely easy to customize and saves her untold amounts of time.  And here is what some others have said (from the AutoHotKey website):
