Find Time to Use What You Have: Heart-Based Productivity Tips

Finding time to use the time that you have available is a core component in your success, and these Heart-Based productivity tips will help you on your journey.

You see, time management and productivity tips can be used in a variety of ways. The fundamental question, as you work to be more efficient and effective, is:  What do you want to do with the time you find?

  • Do you have an image of it?
  • What do you usually do?
  • What draws you?
  • What messages did you receive about “free time” when you were younger?

Julie Morgenstern has said, “There is no such thing as free time.”   Thinking that there is such a thing creates many problems for us down the road.  And of all the productivity tips I have shared over time, this one may be the most fundamental and far-reaching.  So let me quote it again:

There is no such thing as free time.

That is because time is concrete and finite.  Any time you “find” is taken away from another activity that you might have chosen to pursue.  Free time is an illusion.  You always pay for it by letting go of something else.

If we continue with the money metaphor, think about “budgeting” your time.  When you make a new time choice you pay for it by giving up another choice.  In that, you are investing in something important to you and letting go of something less important.  And you are exercising your power to change your life.

Every time you make a time choice, you change your life.

Of course, not making a choice is also a choice – and an expensive one at that.  If you choose to not close any door, you won’t be able to open any others.  Then you are choosing the procrastinator’s path.

Stay tuned for more heart-based productivity tips.  In tomorrow’s post we will explore the procrastinator’s path in greater detail.

For now, just ask yourself, “What life-changing time choice will I make in this moment?”  Small or large, every choice counts.

What does that process look like for you? Picture it, make it real, and drop me a line – I’d love to hear how it goes!
