I hope that this first day of September finds you well, and that you have an enjoyable Labor Day!
Finding time to find your way when life hands you lemons can be a major life challenge. I recently read (and listened to) an interesting post on “The Paradox of Fortunate Misfortune” on a blog titled Productive Flourishing by Charlie Gilkey.
The recently concluded Olympics offered plenty of examples of this phenomenon. There were those who overcame adversity to reach the heights … like the US Men’s Volleyball Team and the US Women’s soccer Team. Then there are those who suffered misfortune (injuries, dropped batons, slips and falls) who will be working to find the good fortune in those events, in the days to come.
From the Olympics, the eyes of many Americans have turned to the political conventions. There, again, we hear lots of examples of people turning misfortune into good fortune. In some ways, that is the essence of what many (certainly many at the conventions) would describe as “the American story.”
Stay tuned tomorrow for three tips to help you transform any misfortune to good fortune for yourself!
In the meantime, think about how you respond when life hands you lemons. Does your response help? Does it present you with additional hurdles to overcome?
