The way you use your time is the way you live your life.
Let’s try a little test about perspective. Do you feel stuck about something right now? Think of something that you’ve got your heels dug in about – or something that has you totally overwhelmed.
Now, visualize it. It doesn’t matter what it is – and you don’t have to be literal. Just use your imagination to give it a color and size and shape. Grab a piece of paper and quickly draw what you see.
It might just look like a great big purple blob – and that’s fine.
Next, visualize yourself standing next to whatever-it-is-that-has-you-stuck. Don’t worry about capturing a likeness. Again, use your imagination to capture your color, size and shape. Take that piece of paper and add yourself to the picture.
If you’re like me, whatever-it-is-that-has-you-stuck is going to be larger, more imposing, and probably a stronger color than ‘you’ are in the drawing. And this is a great place for practicing Perspective Power – because you can easily change your perspective and feel empowered.
So, take your piece of paper, turn it over, and redo your drawing – only this time, make YOURSELF bigger and brighter than whatever-it-is-that-has-you-stuck. Take a breathe and really look at your drawing. Assimilate the power shift and let yourself take in the feeling.
This is just a small, simple example of how you can shift from a victim stance to an empowered position by changing your perspective. It’s an excellent visual to use whenever you are feeling overwhelmed.
The fundamental lesson here is that feeling empowered or disempowered is really a choice that we make. And depending on how we choose, life and all of its possibilities are going to feel very different to us.
So, when is the last time you exercised your Perspective Power to find more time?
I encourage you to try it the next time you feel stuck; and let me know how it goes, because I’d really love to hear!
