Plans and Resolutions: Time to Refresh Your Commitments!

Posted on January 22, 2013, under Time and Energy, Time Priorities.

Plans and ResolutionsPlans and resolutions are exciting on January 1st, aren’t they?  The year stretches out before us, and all things are possible.  And yet, as the saying goes, “Even the best laid plans …”

So, here we are, heading toward the end of January. What better time to check in and see where things stand on the “resolution front.”

But before we dive in and look at our plans and resolutions, I am so very pleased to share that our recent post titled “Time Tracking Tools: Choosing What Works for You!” was featured on BlogHer yesterday!  Have you visited BlogHer?  It’s an informative and comprehensive resource offering blog posts on an amazingly wide range of topics.  So, I encourage you to check out BlogHer … and don’t forget to visit my post while you’re there!

Plans and Resolutions:  Taking Stock

So, the first thing to do is to look back and see what priorities you had set for yourself as you looked toward the coming year.  Did you make a list?  If so, scan it now and jot down some quick, non-judgmental observations about each item.  (And if you don’t have a list, here’s a perfect time to start one!)  Ask yourself some questions as you scan your list of plans:

  • What’s working and what isn’t?
  • What’s not important anymore?
  • Are there things that have come up that you want to add?

Plans and Resolutions:  Affirm and Refresh

As you go over your list, affirm and validate your successes.  The more you pat yourself on the back and acknowledge the positives, the more encouraged and energized you will feel.  As your confidence grows, the challenges look less daunting.

Plans and Resolutions:  Modify and Move Forward

Remember that these are YOUR plans.  Whatever you decide to let go of, and whatever goals you choose to pursue, this is about YOUR time, YOUR values, and the quality of YOUR life.  After reviewing your list and taking stock, modify it in whatever way(s) work best for you.  Remember that nothing is writ in stone; and the more you make your plans and resolutions YOURS, the more likely you are to follow through on them!

And if you’d like to explore Heart-Based Time Management™ more deeply, there’s a great way to do that right now!  I invite you to access Secrets of Heart-Based Time Management™ - my chapter in the book I co-authored - Stepping Stones to Success!  In it you’ll learn about my proven system for harnessing the power of your mind, your body and your spirit to help you deepen your experience of time and of your life.
