Summertime Tech Tip — This Will Reset and Replenish Your Energy

gadgets summertime energy choices

It’s summertime. Do you know where your gadgets are?

Summertime is here — at least if you live in the Northern Hemisphere.

Yes, it’s time for vacations, sunshine, water sports, family gatherings, and lots of outdoor activities.

The choices that you make about your time have a profound effect on the quality of your experience. So here’s a question that’s worth considering ahead of time — before you head off on that long-anticipated family vacation:

How do you want to relate to your on-line life and your technological gadgets while enjoying summertime fun?

Summertime and Technology

Of course, if you’re an entrepreneur or small business owner running an on-line business, I don’t need to tell you how vital these tools are.  But do you want to have them with you all the time?

In the same way that their batteries need to be recharged, consider what you need (and don’t need) in your downtime. How do you replenish your energy? And how much is your personal energy drained by being constantly plugged in?

A further consideration is the expense and importance of your tech tools. They represent a significant financial investment. And perhaps even more importantly, they hold lots of information that is vital to you. So, keeping your tech tools safe and away from sun, sand, water, and other potential hazards is an important consideration as you embark on summertime adventures.

Summertime Energy Tip #1:

If summer is a vacation season for you, then perhaps my strongest suggestion is to leave your phones and laptops and tablets behind. Focus on living your moments fully and without distraction.

It may seem like a daunting step to take.  And it certainly requires some planning up front, as you set up systems for while you’re away.  But the rewards are deep and rich. And there’s really no other way to reap them than by stepping away and unplugging.

Summertime Tech Tip #2:

Maybe you aren’t comfortable with unplugging entirely.  If that’s the case, then this second suggestion offers some middle ground.

Whenever you are going to be someplace where your gadgets are in danger, be it from water, sun, salt, sand, or any other possibly damaging medium or activity, leave your phone or tablet or laptop behind.

Don’t take it on that boat, or onto that beach.  You can return to connectivity when you’re finished with summer fun – but keep those tech tools safe in the meantime.

And observe how this choice affects your energy and your appreciation of your activities and experiences. Being unplugged, even temporarily, gives you the space to recharge and to be more fully present to what your summertime moments hold.

Now, that’s a big win, no matter how you look at it.
