This morning, as a soft rain falls on New Hampshire’s thirsty soil, I’m pleased to find time to share with you the top 5 Time Finder favorites for the month of April!

Topping the list was a post about a time tracking tool called Rescue Time.  This is a powerful and flexible tool that allows you to see exactly how you spend your time – so that you can then make informed choices.

You can use Rescue Time to track how and where you spend your time on the computer, as well as to track off-line time. The nice thing about the on-line tracking function is that once you have set up Rescue Time, it does the tracking for you. There is nothing you need to record. And this means that you get a much better picture than would be otherwise possible, of how you are actually spending your on-line time.

The second most popular post in April was actually shared in March – and is another Cyber Monday post.  This one is titled “Find Time with Zamzar and Evernote Clearly on Cyber Monday” and offered information about two more time-saving tools.  Zamzar is a file conversion service, while what Clearly does is change “web-based material to a wonderfully readable (and printable) format. You activate Clearly with a bookmarklet that you drag to your Bookmarks Bar, and then click it to create a customizable, highly readable version of whatever you are viewing on the web. You can even adjust the font size!

Find Time to Accept Yourself and Transform Your Time with Empowered Compassion™ was the third top post for April and offers powerful, heart-based advice for revolutionizing your relationship with time.

Finding Time to accept all of who you are is a gentle, deliberate process that will transform your time and give you a solid base for action. That’s because being your most productive self, your most empowered self, means being your WHOLE self. And that’s where Empowered Compassion™ comes in.

April’s 4th most-read post offered practical ideas for incorporating movement into your daily life.  Find Time for “Movement Moments” in Your Day! is all about making sure that we pay attention to our body’s need to move … and reap the benefits.

If you spend a lot of time working on-line, your day might easily have you glued to the computer hour upon hour. It can be engrossing work, but in order to be productive and take good care of yourself, it’s imperative that you find time to move.

And last but not least, “Find Time for These Cool Tools for Pinterest!” was another Cyber Monday post that found its way into your top 5.

Pinterest continues to be one of the fastest-growing social networking sites – currently in third place behind Facebook and Twitter. And now, developers are creating all sorts of applications that can help you pin more easily, find people with similar interests more quickly, and analyze your Pinterest influence. All of these enhancements are interesting and helpful – and they can be crucial if you are interested in using Pinterest for your business.

Was your favorite post here?  I’d love to hear what YOU resonated to.  Just take 5-minutes and let me know!  ;>)

Finding time to stay connected with yourself – to have your head and heart in sync, is one of the most powerful time management choices that you can make for yourself.  So, whether you are a follower of politics or not, it’s important to ask yourself about the State of the Union periodically – I mean YOUR union.

This means setting aside some time to check in with yourself periodically.  For some this might be a daily, weekly, or monthly ritual.  The more time you spend doing this (and the more often you do it) the better – but it’s important to find what works for you and to build a pattern that you can trust.

You might ask yourself something as simple as, “How are you doing today?”  Answer honestly, and strive to open up to an internal dialogue.  Let a back-and-forth evolve.  This won’t happen all at once, but as you speak and listen to yourself, you may be surprised at what you discover.

It may feel like you are getting to know a new friend.  How wonderful!

As you learn more about the State of Your Union, you will be able to adjust the ways that you work and use your time, to better fit with your true values and needs.  Keep the dialogue going as you tweak things.

You can’t predict, at the outset, where this path may lead.  But here’s one thing I can absolutely guarantee:

When your goals are in sync with your values, your head and your heart work in tandem, freeing up energy and creativity that you may not have ever known that you had!

Why, it would be like the Legislative and Executive Branches of the Government working together.  Just imagine what could be accomplished …

So, I encourage you to check in with yourself frequently about the State of Your Union.  Listen to what your head and heart have to say to each other … and watch the possibilities blossom!

And as you bring your head and heart into sync, transforming yourself and your relationship with time, consider this:  Are you an entrepreneur, consultant, or small business owner who’s ready to take the next big step?  If you want to learn how to create and to keep a successful business running on your own, then this is for you! “How to Create Credibility as a Freelancer” is a booklet with 70 expert-proven tips that will help you recharge your energy and motivation, increase your visibility, and sharpen those vital organizational and time management skills.

Finding time for heartfelt holiday activities is a warm opportunity to celebrate you and your loved ones, just as much as the season!  To achieve this, one of the key ingredients you’ll need is courage.  Now, I know that courage isn’t a word that one normally associates with this season, but read on …

Courage is key because it helps you navigate year-end demands and shepherd your time and energy so that you are able to experience more deeply satisfying moments.

Interested? Here are 3 Heart-Based Time Management™ Tips to help you access and activate your courage.  And just remember, this is one of the finest holiday gifts you can craft for yourself:

  1. Courage offers clarity and confidence. When you let your heart guide you, your sense of direction is clear. You can enter the whirlwind of the season with your feet firmly planted on the ground. Your sense of self-worth centers you and your clarity gives you direction as you make time choices.
  2. Courage helps you prioritize.  When your health and peace of mind remain at the top of your “To Do List” you clearly commit to safeguard them in the face of countless invitations, temptations and demands.  Which activities would detract from your time? Imagine declining those invitations until saying No feels natural and comfortable.
  3. Courage empowers you to step away from “shoulds” and create a vivid picture of your favorite choices in advance. These positive images provide valuable perspective and fuel your assertiveness.  When you say “No” to something, these images remind you of what you are saying “Yes” to.

I will share more thoughts about how expanding your courage expands your time in upcoming posts.  In the meantime, I also wanted to share some exciting news!

The Time Finder was, for the second year in a row, featured as one of the Top 50 Productivity Blogs of 2011 by Evan Carmichael.  We are so pleased about this terrific honor … and privileged to be part of Evan Carmichael’s fantastic collection of productivity blogs.  We have posted the badge in our sidebar, so that you can visit the collection whenever you want – it’s an excellent resource for productivity ideas, information and tools.

Find Time to Freshen Your Morning Ritual and Renew Your Energy Every Day!

Finding time to celebrate – even a mini-mini-celebration, is a delightful way to add “juice” to your day. That’s why I recommend not only creating a pleasurable morning ritual, but also keeping it fresh, so it’s a genuine treat!

Ritual doesn’t mean rote, after all. My morning ritual provides consistent support, yet it’s fine-tuned to meet me wherever I am.  That means it’s flexible and changes from one morning to the next.

You might find it helpful to brainstorm a list of activities that provide a boost, and then select the one that speaks to your heart for the upcoming day. Here are a few questions you might ask yourself when compiling your list:

  • What engages my interest?
  • What energizes me?
  • What relaxes and centers me?
  • What sends me into the day ready to face the unexpected?

Does the last question surprise you? Well, your day may challenge you to focus where you’d hoped to relax, and to flex where you wanted to stay focused. Wouldn’t it be nice to feel more prepared?

When your morning ritual includes pastimes like memorizing favorite quotations, you plant in your imagination “seed phrases” that serve as mantras throughout your day, whatever it brings.

And when you move your energy with pleasurable activity during your morning ceremony, you will feel more sure-footed when new challenges come knocking.

See how far-sighted you can be when you look within!  Envision what challenges stretch you and which ones generate strain. Try playing with choices that provide a comfortable stretch.

At bedtime, you might reflect back. Ask yourself a few questions to open things up:

  • How well did your ritual support you?
  • Did it help balance your energies, inspire you, orient you or keep you focused?
  • Was it fun?
  • Did you rush through or skip certain portions altogether?

Don’t include any activities wearing a “you should” hat! Reshape your ritual until it sparks your enthusiasm and invites your commitment.

So are you ready to create a morning ritual for yourself and keep it fresh?  There’s so much to explore … so stay tuned!

Finding time to look back and savor what’s been is a great way to energize and ground yourself as you get ready to move ahead.  It’s definitely one of my favorite parts about starting a new month here at The Time Finder.

When you look back and savor, you solidify and assimilate lessons learned.  You also have the opportunity to make choices about what to let go of and what to carry along on your journey.

These are powerful choices – and the wonderful news is that they are entirely in your hands!

When I look back and savor the month at The Time Finder, I am engaging in that same process … and here’s what I found about our readers’ favorite posts during October 2011 …

Topping the list was our post titled “Find Time for Your Feelings-When You Name Them You Claim Your Power!

Work to be open and compassionate with yourself as you explore and identify your feelings. Remind yourself that there are no “bad” feelings – they simply are what they are. Once you are able to see them, you are able to make much more informed choices about how to respond to them.

Second … a very close second … was our companion post titled “Finding Time for Feelings: It’s The Heart-Based Way.”  These two posts, together, give you a helpful roadmap to empowering and energizing yourself so that you can live your moments with clarity and compassion.

When you approach time management in a heart-based way, you include all the parts of you – mind, body, emotions, and spirit – in the equation. And that adds up to a lot!

“Finding Time for Feelings-Move Ahead Powerfully by Looking Back” came in third for Time Finder readers.  Here’s a snippet of this post … you can’t go wrong when you explore your feelings …

Finding time for feelings is hands-down the most powerful time management skill that you can develop. Whether you are naming your feelings in the moment or looking back to find their roots, the moments that you spend exploring your emotions will energize you for whatever tasks you face.

Finishing fourth and fifth on our list of October favorites were two posts from the Time and Technology category:  “Find Time to Keep Track with Trackur on Cyber Monday” and “Find Time to Share Using Google Circles and Google +1: Timely Tech Tips”.  Did you find them helpful?  Want to check them out now?

There’s so much to explore!

So are you ready to move into November?  What will you bring … and what will you leave behind?

Stay tuned, there’s more to come as this new month unfolds.  In the meantime, if you’d like to explore ways to increase your power and effectiveness – whether it’s in your business, or your personal life … I am so pleased to be able to offer my expertise and support as The Official SelfGrowth.com Guide to “Time Management”.

Finding Time for Feelings-Move Ahead Powerfully by Looking Back

Finding time for feelings is hands-down the most powerful time management skill that you can develop.  Whether you are naming your feelings in the moment or looking back to find their roots, the moments that you spend exploring your emotions will energize you for whatever tasks you face.

Yesterday we looked at the importance of knowing and naming what you are feeling right now.  Today I’d like to go deeper, because there’s more to you and your feelings than “happy,” “sad,” and “angry.”  (Though they make a very good start!)

If you think of feelings as being like colors, then it’s very helpful to know that the range and variety of your emotions is more like what you find in a 64 or 128-crayon box than the 8-crayon variety!  Your feelings are as unique as your DNA, AND as fundamental.  So the more you can know them the better off you’ll be.

Imagine that you are puzzled by your very strong reaction to a difficult person or a stressful situation.  Or maybe you are procrastinating about a task and just can’t get past the first step.  These are times when you can move ahead powerfully by looking back!

You see, when you feel things or behave in ways that seem mysterious or disturbing or just plain illogical, if you pause and look back, you are likely to discover the missing pieces.  They fall into place like puzzle pieces.   That’s because the heart has a logic that isn’t always apparent to the mind.

If your response to stress puzzles you, try looking back and remembering how your parents or other important people in your life responded to stress.  Or remember how you felt in third grade when your homework wasn’t finished and you had to leave for school.  These feelings can fuel your responses in the present – and as they become visible to you, you can make choices about how you respond to them (rather than being driven by them).

It’s a deep logic, the logic of the heart.  Looking back brings your heart and mind into sync so that you can move ahead powerfully.  It’s a process of unfolding that will open up doors for you that haven’t yet even imagined for yourself.
