Finding Time to become more authentic and heart-based opens up a wealth of possibilities. In the past, I’ve written about the unique insights that compassion can bring to your time management efforts.

When you bring compassion to any situation you make it possible to also bring your full and authentic presence to it.  Accepting YOU, you can let yourself BE!  And starting from that solid and real foundation, anything becomes possible.

So now that spring is on the way, I’d like to expand on that and plant a new seed in your imagination – something to build and grow with.

Empowered Compassion™ is the concept, and it’s like a fresh shoot rising from the earth – both tender and strong!

Tender and strong – what a powerful combination!  You know how you flow when you move forward from a base of solid inner balance?

  • Because you feel quietly confident, you approach new experiences with openness, rather than feeling guarded.
  • Because you accept yourself, you are willing to learn as you go.

Genuine self-empowerment has its roots in both compassion and realism. You thrive by being human, not superhuman.

What images come to mind for you when you hear the words, Empowered Compassion™?  Sit with them.  Let these inner pictures come into focus and brighten as you bring your own insights and associations to what you read here.

The more you envision how you can welcome Empowered Compassion™ into your life, the more you awaken its potential in your days and your moments.

And here’s the thing:  Empowered Compassion™ gains power from its underlying paradox. Embracing opposites, Empowered Compassion™ embodies yin and yang – acceptance and striving – inhaling and exhaling.

Tomorrow we’ll explore what this means for you, as you begin to step into the exciting potential that Empowered Compassion™ holds for you!

And in the meantime, want to learn more about how you can expand and deepen your time and efforts … in whatever areas you choose? Here’s a great way to explore avenues to increasing your time skills and heart-based power – whether it’s in your business, or your personal life.  I am so pleased to be able to offer my expertise and support as The Official SelfGrowth.com Guide to “Time Management”.

Finding Time to Stop Living Someone Else’s Life

Finding time to follow your dreams may require waking up first. How many automatic time choices are embedded in your life from childhood? If you did the exercise in yesterday’s post, you may have been amazed at the messages you were carrying.

It’s very helpful and important to spot these early default settings. That’s because unexamined patterns can set you up to be living someone else’s life.

And the thing is, your life is unique – never before and never again to be.  What a loss, to not live out that uniqueness to its fullest!

Unconsciously repeating patterns you learned from someone else is like trying to wear someone else’s running shoes for a marathon.  It isn’t going to help you finish the race.  Just so with your time legacy.  However well your family’s time choices may have suited them, they probably don’t fully address your needs.

If there are places where you can feel your time choices hobbling you, those are what I like to call Time Traps.  Those ‘stuck places’ usually hold treasures of information, for those who choose to explore.

So, why not start rethinking a habitual Time Trap right now? These 3 simple steps provide a jumping off place:

  • Name one time choice that frustrates you.
  • Quickly describe how it conflicts with your conscious values.
  • Compare it with what family members did with their time in similar situations.

Following these steps gives you key information about how your Time Trap first took root. As you connect the dots between your troubled time choice and your upbringing, fresh ideas may pop up.  Your explorations energize and empower you – as you awaken into your own, unique life!

And here’s a lesson you can carry with you wherever you go:  Self-consciousness and self-criticism lose ground when you’re genuinely curious and motivated to learn.  This is a powerful reframing of perspective that can absolutely transform all of your choices, explorations and discoveries.   It’s a proactive, heart-based approach that puts you in the driver’s seat, no matter what challenge you are greeting!

Find Time to Nourish Your Courage with Love: Today’s Timely Tip

Finding time to explore in new directions is a ‘stretch’ that will both challenge and nourish you.  It requires your flexibility and courage and in return offers you great rewards.

One of the biggest ways that your courageous explorations will nourish you is that, with each step, you find that you actually have more of yourself to enjoy your time with!  Even better, this expanding self is your energetic and proactive self – the one that buoys your confidence and sparks your interest in new things.

But you and I both know that some days that expansive courage flows freely through your veins. Other days, perhaps you feel in need of a transfusion. What can you do on the “droop days”?

If you tend to scold yourself, prod yourself to buck up, or give up on yourself in exasperation, try something new. I suggest that you try something simple and profound … and brave … like love.

Self-acceptance or self-love is the fuel that, like oxygen in the blood, will keep you going AND nourish you at the same time. This acceptance can be very simple and very compassionate. Comfort with who you are this very moment provides an unshakable foundation for taking fresh new steps. Furthermore, your self-love helps you pace yourself realistically, so you can stay grounded, and learn as you go.

I like to think of my existence as a progression of loving life lessons. Life provides the lessons; I provide the love. This compassionate embrace of each experience further fuels my courage and opens me to whatever is around the corner or beyond the next ridge!

So, next time you feel a strong desire to make a change, ask yourself if you’re motivated by self-loyalty or self-criticism.

If you sense any judgment or impatience, slow down! Start by replacing harsh messages with self-affirming ones. Then you know that you are acting in your own best interests, not reacting to real or imagined criticism from others.

Begin any journey appreciating who you are. You might give yourself an affirmation like, “I’m exactly where I need to be.”  And know, right down to your toes, that you are!

Everything in your life has led you to this point. So warmly validate any and all steps that you have taken so far. The time you take to create a compassionate base for your courage will reward you every day of your life.  This is such a powerful and sustaining practice … I highly recommend it!

As you courageously transform yourself and your relationship with time, consider this:  Are you an entrepreneur, consultant, or small business owner who’s ready to take the next big step?  If you want to learn how to create and to keep a successful business running on your own, then this is for you! “How to Create Credibility as a Freelancer” is a booklet with 70 expert-proven tips that will help you recharge your energy and motivation, increase your visibility, and sharpen those vital organizational and time management skills.

Find Time to Let Reflection Points Refresh You Throughout Your Holiday Journey

Finding time to keep yourself present, energetic, and refreshed over the span of the holiday season can be a big challenge.  There’s so much to do, finding YOU time often gets lost in the shuffle.  That’s why I propose that you give yourself the gift of Reflection Points throughout your day, each and every day.

They needn’t be long, and they needn’t be ‘scheduled’.  Just be sure that you pause periodically and come back to yourself.  That’s because, as you journey through time it’s fundamentally important to take care of yourself along the way!   As Greg Anderson has written:

Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it.

That most certainly applies during this time of year.  It’s easy to push to accomplish “just one more thing” or buy “just one more gift” or write “just one more card” … only to find that you end up feeling overwhelmed, irritable, and depleted in the end.  I am guessing that is not how you want to be journeying through holiday time … or any time, for that matter.

Reflection points give you breathing space and re-energize you so that you can live your moments as fully as possible.  Think of your reflection points as pauses along a mountain path.  If you are tired and the climb feels long, a reflection point gives you an opportunity to take a breath.  If you round a corner and come upon a breathtaking view, a reflection point gives you a moment to fully appreciate its beauty.

Reflection points are about YOU – what you are experiencing and what you need.  They are moments that can powerfully and unerringly bring you back to the moment.  And it’s in each moment that you live your life.  Remember …

Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life. Omar Khayyam

Reflection points bring you back to your life, and isn’t that just where you want to be?

Finding time to spread the word about your product or service or passion is always a challenge.  Maybe you write articles or engage in social media.  Maybe you have a blog, comment on others’ blogs, and take part in forums and teleclasses.  Maybe you send out press releases.

These are all powerful and important tools that can certainly help to raise and maintain your profile on the internet.  But what other ways are there to spread the word?

Well, over the past several months we have been adding audio to our Finding Time E-zine.  I read and amplify the main article aloud and give people the option of either listening via a link, or reading it on-line.  Doing that has given us a growing library of audio material that we recently decided to start publishing as a series of podcasts.

In our case, as we already had our material recorded on Audio Acrobat, we’ve used that to publish the podcasts …

… and to share them in the iTunes store!

You can also use sites like Blog Talk Radio and PodBean to get yourself up and running in the podcast world!

Here’s a great How To video that Denise Wakeman has posted on You Tube with step-by-step directions for how to set up your podcast on Audio Acrobat:

Are you ready to try podcasting? I highly recommend it as a way to enhance your presence and accessibility on the web!

And while I’m on the subject of finding time for making the most of your efforts to spread the word, are you a solopreneur, consultant, or small business owner who’s ready to take the next big step?

If you want to learn how to create and to keep a successful business running on your own, then this is for you! “How to Create Credibility as a Freelancer” is a booklet with 70 expert-proven tips that will help you recharge your energy and motivation, increase your visibility, and sharpen those vital organizational and time management skills.

Finding Time for Feelings-Move Ahead Powerfully by Looking Back

Finding time for feelings is hands-down the most powerful time management skill that you can develop.  Whether you are naming your feelings in the moment or looking back to find their roots, the moments that you spend exploring your emotions will energize you for whatever tasks you face.

Yesterday we looked at the importance of knowing and naming what you are feeling right now.  Today I’d like to go deeper, because there’s more to you and your feelings than “happy,” “sad,” and “angry.”  (Though they make a very good start!)

If you think of feelings as being like colors, then it’s very helpful to know that the range and variety of your emotions is more like what you find in a 64 or 128-crayon box than the 8-crayon variety!  Your feelings are as unique as your DNA, AND as fundamental.  So the more you can know them the better off you’ll be.

Imagine that you are puzzled by your very strong reaction to a difficult person or a stressful situation.  Or maybe you are procrastinating about a task and just can’t get past the first step.  These are times when you can move ahead powerfully by looking back!

You see, when you feel things or behave in ways that seem mysterious or disturbing or just plain illogical, if you pause and look back, you are likely to discover the missing pieces.  They fall into place like puzzle pieces.   That’s because the heart has a logic that isn’t always apparent to the mind.

If your response to stress puzzles you, try looking back and remembering how your parents or other important people in your life responded to stress.  Or remember how you felt in third grade when your homework wasn’t finished and you had to leave for school.  These feelings can fuel your responses in the present – and as they become visible to you, you can make choices about how you respond to them (rather than being driven by them).

It’s a deep logic, the logic of the heart.  Looking back brings your heart and mind into sync so that you can move ahead powerfully.  It’s a process of unfolding that will open up doors for you that haven’t yet even imagined for yourself.

Ready to get started?  Here’s one way that you can transform and deepen your relationship to time in the Heart-Based Way …
