Finding time to get everything done in any given day can be a very tall order. How often do you feel like you’re running against a stopwatch and depleting yourself in the process?

Don’t you sometimes wish that someone would come along and give you whatever it is that you need in that moment?

Well, the good news is, that “someone” is YOU!

Think about it. You have the power to give yourself exactly what you need every single day. You really do – I’m not just saying that.

Here’s something I’d love for you to try as the new year gets underway:

As you begin each day, spend a few moments with yourself. You could try meditating, going for a brief walk, doing some journaling or stretching – anything that slows you down and puts you in touch with yourself.

At the end of those moments, think about one thing that you want to give yourself as the day progresses. Don’t limit your thinking – all the possibilities are open to you.

  • Maybe it will be something intangible like self-confidence or focus.
  • Or maybe some days it will be something quite concrete like a movie at 7:30 PM, or a piece of chocolate after dinner.
  • Whatever it is, it should be something that you would like to give to yourself based on your connection in that moment.
  • And whatever it is, be sure that you follow through on it!

At the end of each day, check in with yourself. Did you give yourself what you promised? Or did you give yourself something different?

It helps to keep a small notebook and just jot down, each morning, what you offer yourself. Then at night you can revisit your book and write down what you received. You may begin to see some interesting patterns.

When you give yourself exactly what you need every single day, you are building a warm and trusting relationship with yourself. You will notice that everything feels more positive and more possible as you build a track record of self-nurturing follow-through.

This is such a powerful and sustaining practice … I highly recommend it!

As you transform yourself and your relationship with time, consider this:  Are you an entrepreneur, consultant, or small business owner who’s ready to take the next big step?  If you want to learn how to create and to keep a successful business running on your own, then this is for you! “How to Create Credibility as a Freelancer” is a booklet with 70 expert-proven tips that will help you recharge your energy and motivation, increase your visibility, and sharpen those vital organizational and time management skills.

Find Time to Use Your Choices to Move Into Your Power-3 Time Truths

In our last post we explored the importance of knowing that time is concrete and finite, and of using the time that you have to its fullest.  A key component in being able to make the most of your time and move into you power lies in making choices.

And remember, not-choosing is also a choice, albeit one that is guaranteed to keep you stuck.

So, you really have two choices to make, when it comes to choice-making:

  • What choice will you make and, even more fundamentally,
  • Will you choose or not?

Let’s examine that second, fundamental question more closely.  It is asking you whether you will move into your power by Acting or whether you will choose to not choose – and Procrastinate?

The decision is always yours and yours alone, and it is a powerful one.  Here are 3 Time Truths to help you use your time choices to move you into your power, so you can live your moments as fully as possible:

1st Time Truth:  Procrastinators fall short of the necessary level of commitment to bring about the changes they’d like to make in their lives.  But it doesn’t need to be that way.

The Action you can take to counter Procrastination is to Commit now. Like the Chinese general Xiang Yu in the third century B.C., decisive individuals “burn their ships” as they cross the rivers to new land, to erase any temptation to retreat. Decide now. Commit. Move forward.

2nd Time Truth:  Procrastinators squander their potential by waiting for a better deal.

The Action you can take to stop waiting and start walking your own powerful path is to Engage now. Living each moment as fully as you can and giving everything you have to whatever you are doing is the opposite of sitting on the sidelines.  There is nothing to wait for.  This moment is everything, and the more fully you can realize that, the more fully you’ll be able to live.

3rd Time Truth:  Procrastinators hand over the power of their lives to circumstances beyond their control.

The Action you can take to change that for yourself is to Claim your power now. You are unstoppable when you are willing to invest your energy and heart in the life you value the most. When you truly value your life, you live in real time. You know that your time choices are entirely in your hands and that you, not external circumstances, determine how you use your time.

Do you welcome your opportunity to live your life to its fullest and move into your power?  You see, action and change require commitment.  I guarantee that you will not only find time as you commit to fully exercise your power of choice, you will also create a stronger, more confident self.

What is your next powerful choice to find more time?

Let’s explore time together …

And while I’m on the subject of exploration, transformation and empowerment, are you a solopreneur, consultant, or small business owner who’s ready to take the next big step?

Find Time to Really Do Your To Do List -3 Powerful Time Tips

Finding time to complete the items on your to-do list is an ongoing challenge. Sometimes those lists become so challenging in and of themselves that we want to avoid them … and that’s not a good idea!

Have you run into problems with managing these lists for yourself? I have a friend who jots ideas and tasks on scraps of paper and sticky notes, putting them in her date book as the day goes on.  she captures a lot of material that way, but, as you can probably imagine, by the end of most days that date book looks like it’s filled with confetti! Sometimes the notes fall out, or get covered by other notes.

So, yes, it’s a challenge to keep up with it all.

That’s why I encourage any and everyone to take time — even just five minutes — at the beginning and end of the day, to plan, prioritize/consolidate, and review your list (or lists).

Each piece of this process is important, so let’s focus on each separately with these 3 Powerful Time Tips:

Finding time to plan is like scanning the landscape from up in the air. You need to get the lay of the land, note any barriers, and decide on your route. Really, what you’re determining is how you’re going to travel through your day.  This is the most important part of your process – without it you’ll be embarking on your journey without a compass– and I guarantee, you’re going to get lost!

When you’re navigating your day, it’s really important to know where you’re starting, where you want to end up, and the major intersections and turning points along the way.

Having a plan doesn’t mean that there won’t be a need to make changes as the day unfolds. It simply gives you a map. Ideally your map will include alternate routes for any unforeseen contingencies.  You don’t need to go into a lot of detail about those routes, but it’s important (and reassuring) to know that they’re there.

And don’t forget the “Times 2 Rule” when you plan! No matter what the task, it’s good to assume that it will take at least twice as long as you predict.  (And what a gift to yourself, if you end up with a little extra time at the end of the day!)

Finding time to prioritize and consolidate your tasks is another very helpful time management skill to develop. Again, you needn’t spend a lot of time on this. As you look at your plan for the day or your To Do List, highlight the three tasks that you absolutely want to accomplish on this day.

Also, if you’ve got any tasks that can easily be put together, be sure to connect them. This might include things like errands that involve stops close to one another, putting all of your computer-related tasks in the same time slot, etc.

And if you maintain your To Do List or Daily Plan on a computer you can rearrange your tasks as you consolidate and create your priorities.  Having a clean list makes things a little easier and less stressful for yourself.

Last but not least, finding time to review at the end of the day is very important! It gives you an opportunity to tweak your to do list for the next day, adjust your priorities, reflect on any lessons learned, and let go of it all as you had to bed.

Letting go is a wonderful gift that this process allows you to give yourself.  As your head hits the pillow, you can release any worries that you might be carrying, knowing that they are on your list and will be addressed in the morning.  Your sleep will be more restful, and you’ll have more energy as your day begins!

So, are you ready to start really DOING what’s on your To Do List?  Consider giving these 3 Powerful Time Tips a try … and I’d love to hear how it goes for you.

Find Time to Nourish Yourself with a Summer Reverie

Finding time to look, listen, and touch the moments of our lives can be an elusive goal.

It doesn’t need to be that way, but we often get so caught up in our lists and tasks and goals, and we forget that there is a world of depth and texture inside that is incalculably enriching … and ALWAYS accessible.

Here’s the powerful (and magical) thing about time, as summed up by the writer James Carroll:

We spend most of our time and energy in a kind of horizontal thinking. We move along the surface of things [but] there are times when we stop. We sit still. We lose ourselves in a pile of leaves or its memory. We listen and breezes from a whole other world begin to whisper.

It may take some practice, but any time you choose to be still and focus inward, things open up.  It might be a memory, a long-ago feeling or moment, or a heart connection that warms you.

Whatever it is that comes, know that it is part of you.  It reveals something about your inner terrain … the rich worlds that you harbor.

Summertime, with its soft breezes and slower rhythms, offers a wonderful opportunity to start making these small journeys inward.

I encourage you to dip into the silence and see what you discover.  What images bubble up from inside?  How does it change your energy?

This is a really wonderful way of coming to know and nourish yourself more deeply.  Take the first step today … and you’ll see! (Oh, and the more you do it, the easier and more enjoyable it gets.)

Find Time to Connect in Every Venue and Include YOU!

Finding time to connect using the available on-line social venues can be a time-consuming task.  Just today I linked up in two new (to me) places … BranchOut on Facebook, and Visible.me.

It can be great fun to explore the networking sites and tools available on the web.  Furthermore, if you are a small business owner, coach, or on-line entrepreneur, you know that it’s very important to have your name, business information, and products easily accessible for people.  It’s a pretty simple equation:  the more you connect and are connected to, the more SEO clout you have … which then means more connections … and more clout … and so on.

But there’s the time question … how do you find time to connect?   We’ve written a lot about that here at The Time Finder … scroll down for a list of some related posts.

Once you find the time, how do you connect meaningfully?  You see, connecting isn’t just a matter of sharing blog posts and links and auto-tweets.  Connection is a matter of real engagement.

Sound daunting?  Well, I would argue that the key is taking a step back and connecting with YOURSELF for starters. You simply can’t have real engagement, in ANY venue, unless you are connected with yourself.  And the good news is that when you are connected to YOU, engagement won’t be a big stretch.

So here’s what I’d suggest:  Before you next get on-line to visit your Facebook Page or your Twitter account …

  • Take a seat in a comfy chair;
  • Relax your head, neck, shoulders, and hands;
  • Inhale deeply and then exhale, letting go of ant tension that you are holding; and
  • Greet yourself with love.

Sit like that for at least a couple of minutes – it doesn’t have to be long (but you’ll love it enough to want to keep doing it).

Return to your work with renewed energy, self-compassion, insight and ideas. You will be amazed at the boost this simple exercise can give you, as you find time to connect in every venue … and include YOU as the key ingredient!

And speaking of connecting, I am so pleased to share that I am The Official SelfGrowth.com Guide to “Time Management”.  When you visit you’ll find time management articles by experts in the field, along with a vibrant and welcoming on-line community.  Are you inspired to explore time management tips and tools to increase your effectiveness, efficiency and enjoyment?  Then, I invite you to check out SelfGrowth.com and explore the many resources available there.  And don’t be shy – stop by my Expert Page and leave a comment or question … or just say hello.  There are lots of ways to connect … let’s get started!
