Finding Time by Viewing Deadlines Through Fresh Eyes

Posted on May 2, 2012 by , under Time and Energy, Time Priorities.

Finding time to actively welcome and appreciate each moment can liven up your day.  And something as simple as changing how you view deadlines can help.

So, if you feel haunted by the upcoming red circles on your calendar, how about trying a fresh way of working with them?  Approaching your deadlines differently and concluding your tasks in a timely manner definitely regenerates your Priority Power™.

Let’s start with the basics in your approach to your deadlines.  First and foremost, “deadlines” sound so … dead.  I prefer to think of them as “due dates”, instead.

What a positive re-framing of the concept.  Each completed task not only marks the end of something – it also “births” new possibilities!

Notice how planning for “due dates” can help you focus with anticipation, not dread. This powerful-yet-simple renaming encourages you to stay on task and also to think ahead to the next chapter of your work.

When your goal is something that you view as positive, then obstacles (including distractions that appeal to you) become impediments that keep you from something you desire.  Each time a temptation threatens your success, it becomes easier to steer clear.  And procrastination becomes less of an issue, too – because you have prioritized your projects, charted a destination and developed a clear and positive path to follow to success.

Are there time topics that you’d like to read more about here?  Please feel invited to drop me a line – I’d love to hear from you and serve your time finding needs!

So, want to learn more about how you can expand and deepen your time and efforts … in whatever areas you choose? Here’s a great way to explore avenues to increasing your time skills and heart-based power – whether it’s in your business, or your personal life.  I am so pleased to be able to offer my expertise and support as The Official SelfGrowth.com Guide to “Time Management”.

Find Time Make a Commitment to Love Your Business

Posted on February 15, 2012 by , under Time Choices, Time Priorities.

I’m so pleased, today, to share a guest post by Ideapreneur™, Entrepreneur, and Creator of Your Brand in Bloom, Ally Piper … enjoy!

Love was in the air yesterday!  But do you love your business?

As a small business owner, your relationship with your business is important to your success. But unlike the attention we give our personal relationships (especially on days like Valentine’s Day) we often ignore the critical elements in our business that will help us get ahead and create the life we dream of … by getting busy in the day-to-day activities.

How often do you take time away from working IN your business to work ON your business? It’s easy to get caught up in what you think you should do versus what you need to be doing as the owner/entrepreneur. If you’re not familiar with this concept you need to read Michael Gerber’s The E-Myth Revisited. It will open your eyes. More than likely you spend most of your time as a technician working in your business instead of as an entrepreneur controlling the big vision and working on your business.

Your time away from the day-to-day activates should allow you time to plan, get inspired and learn new things. And I’ve found no better way to do that than by learning from other successful people!

In fact, I’m such a believer in learning from others that I have created a free telesummit happening this week designed especially for women in business called Your Brand in Bloom.

I created Your Brand in Bloom because while building my successful marketing business I ended up creating a J–O–B and I found the other business owners I admired had this “behind the scenes magic” that I needed to know more about. I understood marketing, but this was more than that. This was about giving myself and my business the attention it deserved so I could create the life I wanted, the business that supported it … and thrive.

And when I was struggling with productivity (who doesn’t?!), I found Paula. Her Finding Time Tips were practical and completely doable. It wasn’t about adding one more thing to my already busy plate. It was about actually finding time!

Give your business the gift of love this week. You can listen in for free as I interview 14 successful women in business about topics like personal branding, leadership, style health and wellness and more. On Friday, Paula will join me to talk about How to Jump-Start Your Creative Productivity™ Today: Unlock Your Heart-Based Power.

I hope you’ll join us!

Find Time and Courage to Move Ahead by Letting Go: 3 Timely Tips

Posted on January 18, 2012 by , under Time Choices.

Finding time is all about saying No to one thing to say Yes to another, as I often say.  The No that you say to one thing is what actually makes your Yes to something else possible, and meaningful.  It’s all about how you make your time choices.

So, let’s pause for a moment.  How do you feel about your time choices so far today?  Don’t come from a critical place or you’ll clam up.  Just let yourself feel.

Are there choices you’d like to change?  Most of us are going to say yes to that … but before you start thinking about how you want to change those choices, let’s pause again.

Ask yourself, what is it that, for YOU, leads you to want to change how you use your time?

Is it …

  • Restlessness?
  • Ambition?
  • Intuition?
  • Inspiration?
  • Supporting your family?

It can be very helpful to feel out just what creates the desire for a change.  That lays the foundation for future time choices.  Then, having clarified what fuels your desire for change, it’s important to know what ignites it.

Courage is the key!  Because moving into change means letting go of what’s familiar and comfortable, it’s courage that inspires you to let go to move ahead.

Since your time is finite, and your energy is, too, it’s important to make the kinds of courageous time choices that enable you to move directions that are in sync with your values and your goals.

As you identify new activities that are especially meaningful to you, you may find it easier to limit activities that compete with your emerging goals with these 3 tips to kindle your courage with your enthusiasm:

  • Talk to yourself about the changes you desire.
  • Validate how your new life choices reflect your evolution and growth.
  • Envision yourself on your new path. Feel yourself move.

The more fully you commit to your emerging self, the easier it will be to let go of activities that are no longer a good fit. And the energy you release from your old attachments comes with you – just imagine how you’ll be able to use that!

As you courageously transform yourself and your relationship with time, consider this:  Are you an entrepreneur, consultant, or small business owner who’s ready to take the next big step?  If you want to learn how to create and to keep a successful business running on your own, then this is for you! “How to Create Credibility as a Freelancer” is a booklet with 70 expert-proven tips that will help you recharge your energy and motivation, increase your visibility, and sharpen those vital organizational and time management skills.

Find Time to Monitor Your Social Media Marketing Efforts-Start Here!

Posted on September 26, 2011 by , under Time and Technology.

Finding time to make the most of social media marketing, if you are a solopreneur or small business owner, can be very challenging.  You may be so busy with the daily tasks involved in developing and running your business, that social media marketing becomes the task that always gets put off ’til another time.

That’s a big mistake, though.  To gain traction in our web 2.0 world, you need to see social media marketing as a key component in your daily work life.  Whether it’s a task that you delegate or do yourself, social media marketing is fundamentally important, and it’s here to stay.

I recently came across a comprehensive compilation of resources focused on web-based business and social media marketing titled “50 (of the) Best Social Media Guides, Tips and Insights of 2011 (So Far).” This post was on the blog Webbiquity | B2B Marketing Blog, self-described as follows:

Webbiquity: 1) The fusion of SEO, search marketing, social media, reputation management, content marketing and social PR. 2) Being omnipresent on the web for the search phrase that uniquely describes you or your organization. 3) The place to find help with all of this. Webbiquity – be everywhere online.

Both the blog, and the post offer helpful information, insights, and practical tools for online entrepreneurs.   In looking over one featured post (this was from Socialbrite) titled “20 free, awesome social media monitoring tools,” I was especially intrigued by one I hadn’t heard of before:  Addictomatic.

This powerful tool allows you to instantly, in real time, scour key social media marketing sites for info about trending topics, or about keywords that you want to track.  Here, for example, is a search that we just did on “social media marketing.”  (Perhaps when you take a look at that search right now, you’ll see this post listed there – a clear example of the power of this tool.)

Are you an on-line business person?  Is social media marketing one of the things that you never seem to get to?  Maybe taking a look at some of the ideas and tools in this post will get you started – it’s definitely worth finding time to do so!

Let’s explore time together …

And while I’m on the subject of finding time for your business, are you a solopreneur, consultant, or small business owner who’s ready to take the next big step?

Find Time to Appreciate the Experience of Aging

Posted on August 9, 2011 by , under Time as We Age.

Finding time to appreciate the experience of aging can be a challenge, but it’s certainly one well worth taking on.  As the month of August is my birth-month, and I contemplate turning another year older, I find my thoughts turning to the experience of aging and how it has required letting go, as well as opening up new vistas for me.

These 5 timely tips will help you as you make this journey for yourself.  Think of them as stepping stones and remember that there is no “right” or “wrong” about this.  This is YOUR journey and YOUR experience of aging. Likewise, adapt these tips as you experiment and discover what works for YOU!

5 Tips to Help You Appreciate the Experience of Aging

  1. The process of aging occurs over time.  Aging may sneak up and surprise you, but you don’t want to set yourself up that way! Review the last few months. Can you identify the incremental changes in your efficiency? Use your new clarity to understand that these changes are a natural part of living and work to ground yourself in them.
  2. Avoid denial.  Compassionately and directly confront the realization that you move more slowly, and that it takes you longer to complete even familiar activities. It’s a temptation to deny the reality of these life changes, and to tell yourself that things will return to their normal pace once you are less tired or stressed. However, this keeps you on the defensive. Instead, assert positive control by listing those tasks that now take you longer to complete. Then strategize accordingly.
  3. Don’t react with anger or frustration.  Encourage your feelings to flow, rather than churn in whirlpools. Staying stuck in anger or frustration diverts valuable energy.  Redirect this flow and start examining how you can adjust to your new pace. Use your creativity and challenge yourself. Craft new and enjoyable ways to maintain your desired productivity, while accepting that the time required overall may be longer.
  4.  Don’t stay stuck in grief.  Grief, too, needs to flow and then make way for the new. If you associate high productivity and accomplishment with your core self-esteem, you may initially feel like you’ve ‘hit a wall’ as you slow down. However, aging opens new gateways, if you look forward, not back. As you genuinely accept your real losses and honor your accomplishments, you can re-frame this as a time to stretch, savor, and celebrate what truly matters.
  5. Use humor.  Humor humanizes. Try to approach your friends’ complaints about the changes to their productivity with empathy and a humorous anecdote of your own. Negative attitudes are highly contagious, but a pragmatic view, softened by humor, creates an environment of acceptance.

The experience of aging is an ever-changing one.  When you approach it with compassion, realism, and your heart-based toolkit in hand, you’ll find it to be a rich and enriching developmental phase.

Find Time to Get to Your Goals the Flexible Way-3 Time Tips!

Posted on May 24, 2011 by , under Time Choices, Time Management Skills.

Find Time to Attain Your Goals with FlexibilityFinding time to create and pursue your goals while being flexible might sound like a contradiction.  But you know what?   I doesn’t have to be.  In fact, I would say that flexibility is key to attaining your goals AND setting goals can actually help you develop your flexibility.

The following tips will enable you to become more fluid and flexible as you work to attain your goals.

  1. Develop an Attitude of Expansiveness. Breathe deep and relax your body as you open and expand.  Encourage yourself to broaden your viewpoint and allow for more than one possibility. For example, you might combine two divergent ideas to create a new option that will enrich the outcome of your goal.
  2. Discard Outworn Expectations. When you find your goals thwarted, explore whether you are expecting life to play by rules you learned long ago. Let go of rigidity based on ‘shoulds’ that needlessly restrict you.  Encourage yourself to create a wider base.
  3. Draw on Your Creativity. Ask yourself “What if…” Try on different options until you find new connections. Encourage visualization and fantasy.

And here’s a bonus tip that often doesn’t occur to us … but will move your goals toward completion while also fostering connections and a nice give-and-take with friends, family and colleagues:

Be Willing to Ask for Help. Find experts and ask for suggestions and feedback. Allow yourself  to broaden the scope of your goal by engaging in problem-solving dialogue. Often an objective outsider will have just the solution you’re looking for!

Ready to give it a try?  What goal will you pursue flexibly today?  Let me know how it goes -  I’d love to hear!

And are you inspired to find time and increase your effectiveness?  Here’s one way that we are spreading the word – providing another platform for following The Time Finder!  We are now available at Amazon, so you can follow The Time Finder on your Kindle.   You can try it out for 14 days FREE, then continue to receive new content, right on your Kindle, every time we post!
