When you lower your stress you enhance your energy, expand your perspective, and transform your time.
You feel better and you get more done.
Yet the reality is that, for most of us, the hustle, bustle, and challenges of everyday life have our stress levels inching up each day. It can be overwhelming.
On the other side of the scale is some good news, though. You hold a lot of power in your hands. It’s called choice and it’s always yours.
So, as challenging as life can feel sometimes, there are always ways to step away from stress and enhance your energy.
It’s a cycle you can stop.
When you allow stress to build, for example by holding onto the stresses of yesterday, you simply add to the tension of today and tomorrow. Eventually, the amount of pressure you carry around inside becomes nearly unbearable, devouring your time and energy.
Lowering your stress has many benefits. Perhaps the greatest is that it allows you to enjoy the life that you are creating. The bottom line is that you have choices. When you remember that, doors open and, in fact, you immediately enhance your energy.
You don’t have to allow stress and worries to rob you of the full appreciation of your moments.
Here are 3 practical, actionable tips to get you started on lowering your stress levels right now.
1. Ask for help to enhance your energy.
If you’re constantly running on empty, your mind, body, and spirit suffer the repercussions of your tenacity. There’s no shame in asking for help. When you ask, it’s important to be coming from a clear, adult place (as opposed to a ‘victim’ perspective). And being as specific as possible is a big plus. It enables others to respond from a clear place as well.
Quite often, people are delighted to help and will be more than willing to pitch in.
2. Enhance your energy with self-care.
What replenishes your energy? What do you enjoy doing? Knitting, relaxing in a bubble bath, drawing, lounging in bed watching reruns of the Golden Girls?
Indulge yourself in your favorite activity a few times each week, and know that when you enhance your energy, you are NOT being self-indulgent.
Start small as you begin this practice. Maybe carve out an hour each weekend to relax and do something you truly enjoy. Setting time boundaries for yourself and making time for you is a simple and effective way to lower your stress and enhance your energy. The more you do it the more natural it will feel for you.
Always remember that taking time to de-stress and enhance your energy always improves your next moments. AND it saves you from going into overdrive and possibly stressing out your loved ones later.
3. Connect.
Whether you’re an introvert or an extrovert, connections are important. The vital connection may be primarily with yourself (if you’re more of an introvert). Or if you’re an extrovert, you tend to enhance your energy by connecting with others.
Either way, making time to connect, with yourself and/or with friends and family, is a vital part of managing your stress levels.
Your connection with yourself is always the foundation. Then that ripples out. Friends and family make you laugh and provide you with places to share, process, and just relax. This can help deplete your stress levels significantly.
And if time boundaries are an issue for you, it’s important to be clear with yourself about how much time you are choosing to spend. That way, making connections doesn’t take away from the time you need for other things.
Again, the power is all yours.
Stress seems like a normal part of life, but it doesn’t have to be that way if you’re willing to make different choices. Quite often there’s a simple fix to the challenges that are causing you stress.
When you adjust your perspective and own your power, all sorts of solutions pop into view. So here’s to your success, as you lower your stress, enhance your energy, and find time for what matters most to you.
