Alone Time Hard to Find? How to Create Space for Yourself.

Sun and ocean

Alone time is a powerful gift…

Alone time is one of the most refreshing breaks you can give to yourself.

AND it can be very hard to find.

In the course of your day, how often do you find yourself alone and away from the computer, the phone, errands, projects, or a list of things to do?

That’s one reason that exercise time can be so refreshing. Not only are you moving and replenishing your energy, but you are also giving yourself a break.

Think of it as a mini-vacation.

So what would you like to take on your mini-vacation?  And where would you like to go?

I’d like to suggest today that you spend some time thinking about how you can refresh yourself mentally/spiritually/emotionally while you are making time to exercise.

Alone time — it’s your choice to make:

Being planful about this time can significantly enhance it for you. So, here are some ideas to consider:

  • Is there a book you could listen to?
  • Do you want to use the time to think about your day/week/month? Maybe you’ll settle into some planning for the time ahead. Or perhaps you’ll reflect on events gone by.
  • Can you use the time as a meditative space? You might do this simply by making a conscious choice to focus on your breathing as you move.
  • Is there something that’s been bothering you that you can use the time to focus on?  Can you do some problem-solving as you pound out the miles? Or perhaps let go of some nagging feelings?

If you carry your phone with you when you exercise you’ll be able to capture any ideas that bubble up.  Recording them allows you to let go and keep moving without worrying about trying to remember it all.

With alone time so hard to come by, it is enriching to use the moments that you have to their fullest.

So, when you are exercising, how do you use that time now? And what might you do to enhance that for yourself, starting today?

Here are some more ideas…
