Getting back to school was on my mind last night as I thought about today’s post.
And as I started writing I discovered that, lo and behold, it was on this day a year ago that we last focused on that seasonal chore.
Here we are again. It’s nearly September, and if school hasn’t started yet, it soon will.
For kids and families, getting back to school (or starting for the first time) is an exciting and sometimes anxiety-provoking experience. So, what can you do to avoid overwhelm and make it all go as smoothly as possible?
Back to school time is here…
Well, for starters, it’s a good idea to start planning long before school starts. There are lots of online resources available, like this Back-to-School Checklist from schoolfamily.com. Their article Ready, Set, Back to School is also a very helpful resource.
And as you plan, it will be helpful if you create your own template on your computer. This is something you can save and modify, based on your experience. Then you can pull it out each mid-summer, and keep tweaking and fine-tuning it as the years come and go.
Circumstances inevitably evolve and change as your children grow, and/or different schools come into play. Your template will provide you with an important base, however, and will help you save lots of time (and not miss crucial steps) as you move through this seasonal transition.
I encourage you to think about using templates for lots of tasks, and especially the seasonal ones. As tools for finding time, they are hard to beat.
AND don’t forget to validate yourself for everything that you accomplish. This is energizing, and you deserve it.
So, how are you and your family doing on the back to school transition this year? What has been challenging? What have you learned?

Your life is busy. Whether it’s seasonal changes, work, vacation planning, or unpredictable events that intrude, you’re making decisions from the time you wake up to the moment you go to bed. And I don’t mean life-changing decisions. Most often, they’re the small, everyday choices — often pretty much the same choices over and over.
You might think that having choices would always be a plus. But in reality, too many choices can be exhausting. You might not even notice, because they are often so small. But all the decisions drain you and slow you down, sapping energy that you could be applying to other things.
So today I want to share a helpful E-Guide with you. It gives you tools for easing ‘decision fatigue’ and helps you make the most of your time. It’s powerful, practical, and it absolutely works.
