Be in Your Moments to Fully Experience Your Life

Be in your moments
Be in your moments…

Choosing to be in your moments is one of the most profound choices you ever make.

It’s a choice that deeply affects the quality of your time and you must make it over and over.

And when you are either looking forward to something or dreading something, choosing to focus and be in your moments is an even bigger time challenge.

It’s not unusual to have something on the horizon that you are anticipating. But if it distracts and overshadows the present, then you are losing your now to your future.

How to be in your moments — the challenge:

Imagine that you have an event two days in the future that you’re looking forward to. How do you manage your time until it arrives? You’ve got 48 precious hours between now and then. Can you be in your moments in that in-between time?

No matter how you feel about what any hour holds, it will always be 60 minutes — and those minutes will always each include 60 seconds.

There is no changing that. Those moments will inevitably pass, one second at a time. The challenge is to not be simply marking time while waiting for your future to arrive.

Time boundaries help here…

Think of your boundary as a way to keep your eyes and your energy focused so you can be in your moments.

It may help to picture an actual, concrete fence or wall that you can’t see beyond. You might also think of your future event as a reward for focusing on the now.  This helps keep you in the present and offers a double reward — one now and one in the future.

And if conversely, the future event is something that you are dreading then your challenge is twofold:

  • You don’t want to be in denial about your future, nor do you want it to ruin your present. Be sure that you have done everything you can and need to do to prepare for what’s coming.  Then bring your focus back to the present so you can be in your moments.  Each time it wanders, gently bring it back.
  • As you prepare for your event, and as you focus on the present moment, give yourself positive reinforcement. This may even have the added benefit of helping you change your perspective on the event that you are dreading.

Choosing to be in your moments is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.

This moment is what you have. So, how do you stay focused and present to it?
