Clear Your Clutter Crush with These 3 Tips

small steps
Start small to clear your clutter.

Finding time to get organized and clear your clutter crush it’s always time well spent.

I know how daunting clutter can be.  For me, it’s paper.  Though much of my work is on-line, I prefer to do my reading and writing the old fashioned way.

When you couple that with the fact that I find many things interesting, well, you can picture the piles.

So, I decided to declutter.

As part of my larger goal of giving myself more expansive time and space in the coming year, I’ve decided to do some culling.  In the process, I’ve discovered that what originally looked like an overwhelming task has become enjoyable and empowering.

So, how about you? Do you want to clear your clutter? To get started, read on.

3 tips to help you clear your clutter:

  • Think about it ahead of time. Before you start to clear your clutter, think about what you’ll let go of and what you’ll keep.  Entering the task with a “letting go” mindset gives you clear parameters. And that will mean fewer questions while you are working.  You’ll get a lot more done in the time you’ve allotted.

  • Keep your goals small. This is the surest way to experience success.  Working small is especially important with tasks that are difficult for you.  Make your goals as concrete as possible. Also, give yourself a clear, brief timeframe for your work.  For example, that might mean spending 5 minutes getting rid of at least 10 pieces of paper.  Remember, the smaller the step the more assured your success.

  • To successfully clear your clutter, just start. While it is helpful to plan ahead, it is also important to “just do it.”  Clutter can easily overwhelm, so a key is to focus on your specific goal rather than “the whole.” Taking that first step is vital.

When you start to clear your clutter, your successes may be visible only to you. That’s fine.  Be sure to celebrate each success and validate your efforts.

To clear your clutter, follow-through is key.

And it’s in your follow-through that the promise lies.

You WILL get there. Not only will you get there, but you’ll find that each time you follow through you are building trust and confidence in yourself. That’s a gift of empowerment that will carry over into many, many other areas of your life.

So, you see, when you clear your clutter you aren’t “just” transforming your space. This is a process that transforms your relationship with yourself, too.

Ready to give it a try?  What will be your first step?

I suggest that you start small, think ahead, give yourself lots of validation along the way.
