Clearing out your clutter is always a step that frees up your energy. And now that the time for spring cleaning is rolling around again, are you starting to think about some decluttering?
I know I am — and this is actually one of my favorite annual rituals.
The other day it felt like winter might actually be drawing to a close. Did you feel it?
And with that, did you feel the energy to start clearing out your clutter and making space for springtime?
I like to think of spring cleaning as a ritual and a transition point that marks a fresh, new beginning. And each year, as I step into this transition time, I feel energized by the act of consciously creating space in my life for what’s to come.
Spring into clearing out your clutter…
It’s a time of letting go of the old (those heavy coats and boots) and preparing for what is to come (budding flowers, birdsongs, fresh produce from local gardens). So, mindfully undertaken, spring cleaning is, at its root, a celebration, whatever specific tasks it may entail.
And, practically speaking, spring-cleaning has the added benefit of being an opportunity to de-clutter your living and working spaces. As you throw open the windows to welcome a new season, consider asking yourself what you can let go of and what changes you can make so that your life flows more smoothly.
And remember, small steps get you there.
Every small change that you make to de-clutter and simplify means that you will have more of your time and your energy available for the things that are most important to you. And this needn’t be an overwhelming task.
In fact, when you start clearing out your clutter, if you begin with small spaces you’ll experience success quickly. This, in turn, energizes you for doing more.
So start with something very doable, like clearing the top of your bureau or a small countertop. What’s the lowest-hanging fruit?
Start with just one thing that you can let go of today. What is it?
