Clutter Clogs Got You Stuck? How to Give Them the Heave Ho

Small steps

Clearing clutter clogs is a one-step-at-a-time process.

Clutter clogs can be quite overwhelming. And they also keep you stuck and frustrated.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Indeed, finding time to deal with clutter is often a matter of learning to let go.  It’s a challenge, and at the same time, it’s very doable.

The key is to figure out what works for YOU.

That’s because, just as we are all unique, so are our relationships with whatever clutters up our lives.

The nature of your clutter is also likely to change over time, as you evolve and grow.

Clutter clogs: Where are YOU backed up?

For some of you, the main clutter issue may be paper or clothes or knick-knacks. For others it might be unread e-mails. And it can also be intangible things like worries or even regrets.

So it’s clear that one size doesn’t fit all when it comes to decluttering. A solution that helped you cull your sweater drawer may not help when it comes to cutting down on your overflowing to-do list.

But whatever your clutter issue may be, once you name it and decide to do something about it, you are halfway home.

Then what?

The next step is to give yourself a small, concrete goal that involves letting go of some aspect of your identified clutter clog.  The key words here are small and concrete.

Ask yourself: Is there ONE thing I can let go of right now?

Give yourself an achievable goal, and then validate your success.  Once you get moving, watch the changes and celebrate as your momentum builds.

And if you get stuck somewhere along the way, pause and reflect.  What has you snagged?  If you’re not ready to let it go, that’s okay. But work to make it a conscious choice, rather than something that just “happens.”  And if your task feels overwhelming, focus on each small step, not on the whole.

As you start exploring your clutter and letting it go, what one thing will you start with today?
