Dealing with Stress — These Steps Help You Manage, No Matter What

stress

Dealing with stress…small steps help.

Dealing with stress in your life greatly enhances your productivity, as well as your enjoyment of each moment.

What kinds of stressors do you experience now?

For many people the pandemic and the challenges that it creates as been, and continues to be, a significant source of stress. (That’s putting it mildly!)

Dealing with stress is important.

Stress takes a toll, both mentally and physically. It can leave you exhausted, paralyzed, and susceptible to all manner of illnesses. And that’s certainly not something you want these days.

The good news is that there is a lot that you can do to cope with stress. And the first step is to recognize when you’re feeling its impact.  Then, the second step is to set aside time to deal with it.

It does take time to mitigate stress.  However, the positive effect that this investment produces is well worth the time it takes. So, here are some easy and accessible stress reduction techniques to try:

  • Deep breathing exercises.
  • Meditation.
  • Mindfulness meditation.
  • Progressive muscle relaxation.
  • Mental imagery relaxation.
  • Relaxation to music.
  • Biofeedback.
  • Counseling or coaching, to help you recognize and release stress.

I suggest that you try some of these suggestions the next time you feel stressed. Start with one of the most accessible exercises by focusing on your breathing. Remember, small steps get you there, and don’t worry about whether you’re doing it right. That will just add to your stress.

Concentrate on your breathing and, if it helps, give yourself a focus word. Then, when other thoughts come to mind, gently direct your mind back towards your breathing or your word.

So, what are some typical stressors for you?  How do you cope with them now?  Which stress-reducing technique will you add to your repertoire today?
