Disconnect, Breathe Deeply, and Let Go of Stress, One Moment at a Time

Disconnect to give yourself a break.

Disconnect? Why?

Well, the internet can be a big contributor to our stress.

Whether it’s your inbox or 24/7 news, do you sometimes feel inundated?

Letting go of stress by consciously choosing to spend time away from the web may be a challenging step to take. But when it comes to reducing your stress level it is one of the most practical and powerful self-care choices you can make.

Unexpected Change Opened the Door

I recently heard from a friend who’d been on the fringe of Hurricane Irma. Luckily, the only effect of the storm that she experienced was a power outage. And one of the things that surprised her about that was the relief that she felt at being unable to get online.

I had a similar experience several years ago when an ice storm knocked us off the grid. Having internet time severely curtailed, while challenging, also had its upside.

It’s About Your Health

With the constant availability of information in our lives, it can feel harder and harder to allow for downtime in our days.  If you are a solopreneur, you know this very well.  Many of us are prone to work every day and to strive to be available around the clock.

This may be good for business but, over the long haul, it’s not good for your health or well-being.

Disconnect in Small Bits

As challenging as it may be, I heartily recommend building time into your day when you disconnect to de-stress.  It needn’t be a great deal of time.  Experiment by starting with just 5 or 10 minutes. That will make it easier to take the first step.

And don’t forget to breathe deeply as you settle into your disconnected time. You’ll come back to your work refreshed and rejuvenated.

This powerful gift to yourself serves, not just to de-stress but also to enhance your energy, creativity, and productivity.

So, have you ever thought about disconnecting to de-stress?  How has it worked for you? I’d love to hear!
