Feel Gratitude to Expand Your Appreciation of Life and of YOU

Be joyful

Yes, feel gratitude and be joyful…

When you feel gratitude, you always give yourself a gift.

Indeed, to feel gratitude is always a big plus, no matter what your circumstances or situation.

These days, it is especially meaningful to pause, whether it’s at Thanksgiving or another time, to appreciate the gifts that make life special.

The gifts may be large or small. It’s how our hearts greet them and hold them that matters.

Feel Gratitude — 5 Insights

I shared some of my thoughts about this in an article titled “Time Management Tips: 5 Insights on How to Recharge Your Energy With Gratitude.

And I’d like to highlight one, in particular, here, because it is so fundamental.

As you appreciate yourself, so you can appreciate others.

You are the base for everything that you experience in your life. And you can only give what you have.

Imagine a well full of water. It is easy to draw from that source. Now imagine a dry well. It has no water; therefore, it cannot give any water.

Make time…

So allow time in your day to acknowledge your humanity and warmly validate your efforts to care for yourself and for others. Deep inside, you are always listening to the messages you give yourself.

This insight about gratitude reminds me of a wonderful, brief story that I remember hearing from a client:

“A Native American elder once described his own inner struggles in this manner: ‘Inside of me there are two dogs. One of the dogs is mean. The other dog is good. The mean dog fights the good dog all the time.’ When asked which dog wins, he reflected a moment and replied, ‘The one I feed the most.”

Think about it…

It’s an interesting question to ponder, isn’t it?  What do we feed in ourselves?

As we celebrate Thanksgiving and its season of gratitude here in the United States, may your wellsprings of gratitude be primed by warm appreciation for yourself.
