Find Time to Explore Your Klout on Cyber Monday

Finding time to measure and extend your reach in social networking circles may be something you’re looking to focus on as we head into a new year.  Is that an area you’re looking to grow in for 2011?

If so, you may want to take a look at Klout – a free tool that looks at and assigns a Klout Score to the overall depth and breadth of your social networking influence using a number of measures.

For a quick example of what Klout does, take a peek at my Klout Profile.  As you can see, it looks at various aspects of my Twitter feed to generate data re. my online influence which it then scores on a range from 1-100, with higher scores indicating more influence.  As they describe it on their website:

The Klout Score is a factor of over 35 variables broken into three categories; True Reach, Amplification Score and Network Score.

True Reach is the size of your engaged audience and is based on the followers and friends who actively listen and react to your messages. Amplification Score is the likelihood that your messages will generate actions (retweets, @messages, likes and comments) and is on a scale of 1 to 100. Network Score indicates how influential your engaged audience is, also on a scale of 1 to 100. The Klout score is highly correlated to clicks, comments and retweets.

One of the more intriguing aspects of this tool is that, using it, you can analyze the Klout scores of people you engage with, as well as other people in your niche with whom you haven’t yet connected.  This enables you to extend your reach even further.

Having a quantifiable measure of your influence gives you a baseline, and a wonderful vehicle for setting goals and for measuring your progress.

I’ll be striving for a higher score in 2011 … and now I have some specific goals to aim for!  Here, for example, is the Klout Influence Report for Mari Smith – and one for Mashable.  😉
