Find Time with Zamzar and Evernote Clearly on Cyber Monday

Finding time to streamline your on-line work is often a great way to save small bits of time that can really add up over the long term.  Every tool isn’t going to appeal to everyone – and indeed, there are so many applications an on-line tools ‘out there’ that it can be overwhelming.  That’s why I particularly enjoy sharing on-line tools that sound like time-savers, when I hear about them.

Last week, my VA told me about two tools that she had discovered, used, and thought were quite useful:  Zamzar and Evernote Clearly.   Here’s some information on each of them:

Zamzar is an online file conversion service that offers both free and paid options.  Files can be converted on the web or via e-mail, and there is a quite extensive list of  conversion options.  For example, here are the options for a Microsoft Word document:

bmp – Windows bitmap
docx – Microsoft Word 2007 Document
gif – Compuserve graphics interchange
html – Hypertext Markup Language
jpg – JPEG compliant image
mp3 – Compressed audio file
odt – OpenDocument Text Document
pcx – Paintbrush Bitmap Image
pdf – Portable Document Format
png – Portable Network Graphic
ps – Postscript document
tiff – Tagged image file format
thumbnail – Thumbnail image
txt – Text document

There is also a bookmarklet that you can drag to your bookmarks toolbar, for on the spot conversion of documents that you have open (and Zamzar is able to detect) in your browser.  You can sign up with Zamzar to access more options at three different price levels.  At the free level you can convert a maximum of 5 files in a single session, and as many files as you want throughout the day.

Here is a video that shows you how to use Zamzar to convert files.

Evernote Clearly is a web-based tool that is part of the Evernote collection of products.

Currently it works as an add-on to the Firefox Browser, but hopefully it will soon be available for your favorite browser, too (if it doesn’t happen to be Firefox).

What Clearly does is convert web-based material to a wonderfully readable (and printable) format.   You activate Clearly with a bookmarklet that you drag to your Bookmarks Bar, and then click it to create a customizable, highly readable version of whatever you are viewing on the web.  You can even adjust the font size!

Here’s a brief video, showing how Clearly can (clearly) enhance your experience on the web:
