Frustrated By Your Food Shopping Time? These 3 Tips Help…

Precious Time Quote

Your time is precious…

Food shopping is a weekly activity for most of us.  It’s a necessity of our lives, and for some people it’s a much-enjoyed outing.

But for others, it’s an unpleasant but necessary chore.

Either way, it’s something that can be enhanced by a planning and a small shift in perspective.

3 Food Shopping Tips

Tip #1:  Your perspective is a powerful determinant of your experience.

If you think of the weekly shopping as a form of drudgery, then it will feel like that to you.  Try reframing it as time spent on nurturing and self-care.

If you pause and think about it, your food shopping is a foundational form of self-care. The nourishment that you bring into your home each week forms the base for the days ahead. It shapes the amount and the kind of energy that you’ll have available for everything else that you do.  If you’re shopping for others, too, the impact is that much greater.  The way you nourish yourself truly determines the ways that you, and others, are able to use the time available.  It’s just that important.

Tip #2Use a shopping template to make your planning easier.

I am a big proponent of templates for any tasks that are frequently repeated.  Templates increase your efficiency and save you lots of time, both when you’re checking for what you need and when you’re at the store.  Templates are far better than simple lists because you start out with a frame (in this case a list of grocery items that you generally use in your household) and go from there.  You don’t need to reinvent the wheel each week, and this is a huge time saver.

…and your third tip…

Tip #3:  Plan your meals ahead.

This is both a time and a money saver.

The more you can plan your meals ahead, the less time you’ll need to spend during the week coming up with ideas.  In addition, if you have planned ahead, you are less likely to buy items on impulse. And you’re less likely to waste food that you bought but weren’t sure how you were going to use.

Try it.

Using 1, 2, or all 3 of these tips will make your shopping time more positive, efficient, and focused.  I’d love to hear how it works for you – so leave a comment!
