Google Drive – A New Enhancement for Finding Time

Google Drive Time-Saver

Here’s a Google Drive time-saver for you!

Google Drive offers a useful environment for storing and working with documents that you either want to share with team members or want to have accessible to you no matter where you are.

The way most people work in today’s on-line world, it’s quite possible that you might be on your tablet while you have your first cup of coffee at home, on your laptop before you head to your office, and then on your PC until you leave at the end of the  day.

Oh, and if your commute affords time for connecting to the web, you might also be on your smartphone to do a little work as time allows.

So, you can see how useful Google Drive can be.  Like other web-based apps, it gives you instant access to the latest version of whatever material you’re working on.

The enhancement to Google Drive that I’d like to share today is the ability to use the right-click feature in Chrome to open a drive document with a desk-top application.

Now this may not sound earth-shattering, but what it means is that you can now right click on a document you’ve got in your Google Drive and open it in one of the compatible apps that you have stored on your computer.  This feature, right now, looks like it will be most helpful when you’re working with images.  But the time-saving potential is clear!

Here’s what they say about this feature on the Google Drive Blog:

To get started, install the latest version of the Drive app for Mac or PC (version 1.18) and sync your files. Then, visit Google Drive in your Chrome browser (make sure you’re on the new Google Drive). Finally, right-click on the file and select “Open with” to see a list of compatible applications on your computer that can open it. For example, you can choose to open a PDF file with Adobe Reader, or a .psd with Photoshop, make your edits and save back changes to Drive which will sync across all your devices and other collaborators.

If you’re someone who uses Google Drive a lot I think you’ll find this to be a very helpful enhancement.  After all, streamlining processes and finding time is never a bad thing, so here’s to your time success today and every day!
