Gratitude Isn’t Just About Thanksgiving. Check Out These Tips

Gratitude is grounding and transformative.

There are many ways that gratitude enlarges and enhances your life.

When you choose to feel grateful you immediately shift your perspective and transform the energy that you bring to your moments.

It’s so important to keep this in mind throughout the year. We’re likely to reflect on what we’re grateful for during the Thanksgiving season, but then forget as the year moves on.

However, I’m here to emphasize that, when it comes to creating and nurturing meaning every single day, the attitude of gratitude is a powerful ally for you.

So, here are 5 tips to help you keep this going throughout the year.

5 Gratitude Tips

1.  Be your gratitude.

Gratitude is about the totality of your life and about how you view the world. It is a specific lens through which you make meaning, and it enables you to appreciate the opportunities that you have been given. When you approach life with a grateful heart, it opens your eyes.

2.  As you appreciate yourself, so can you appreciate others.

You are the base on your life. And you can only give what you have. Imagine a well full of water. It is easy to draw from that source. Now imagine a dry well. It has no water; therefore, it cannot give any water. So build time into your day to acknowledge your humanity, and warmly validate your efforts to care for yourself and for others. Deep inside, always listen to the messages you give yourself.

3.  Let others know that you appreciate them.

Acknowledging others is a concrete way to let them know that you truly see them – AND that you appreciate what they do. Make sure your validations are specific. For example, “Thanks for reviewing my report.  Your feedback was very helpful, and I appreciate the time that you took.”

4.  Like attracts like.

This is a fundamental principal of the Law of Attraction.  You receive back what you put out. If you are negative and critical, then that energy enters the universe and draws the same back to you. And by the same token, if you are grateful and loving, then the universe sends gratitude and love back to you. Your conscious efforts to cultivate gratitude prepare the ground for life’s gifts to take root.

5.  Gratitude is an antidote to fear and self-criticism.

It is virtually impossible to be at once grateful and afraid, or grateful and self-critical. When you experience gratitude, you experience a sense of satisfaction, of wholeness and of completion.

What role does gratitude play in your life?  As you reflect on this, remember to be grateful for the insights that come, as they help you along your path.

And speaking of energy, don’t let this drag you down…

We all have voices that chatter at us throughout the day. The Inner Critic is one of them. Learning to recognize (and counter) this destructive voice is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.

You see, the Inner Critic is a negative, debilitating and constant presence in your life.  And it’s not just the words! It’s the judgmental tone, the rolling eyes, and the scolding wag of the index finger. Beyond sapping your energy and confidence, your Inner Critic robs you of time and profoundly distorts how you see others and how you feel about yourself. So, what can you do?

Give yourself a big boost with my Exercise and Guide Book titled “These Critical Voices Are Driving Me Crazy!” How to Use Positive Self-Talk to Save Your Sanity and Your Time!
