Here’s What Gets You to Your Goals

Blame others
Excuses never help.

Your goals are important to you, right? But far too often, they seem more like dreams than goals.

Does that sound familiar?

Finding time for what matters most is a daily challenge, as is taking the steps to move your goals toward becoming realities.  That’s why it’s so important to remember, as you negotiate your daily priorities, that the power to make time choices is always in your hands.

So, go for your goals.

No matter what unanticipated changes might come your way, you always have choices about how you respond. This fundamental fact holds a world of empowerment.

Maybe you had planned to work on an e-guide you’re creating, but then a client called in the midst of a crisis. This changes things drastically, but you still get to choose how you respond, and you still get to prioritize your time.

There is a world of empowerment in realizing that and acting from that place of power.

Why? Because acknowledging that you are making choices means that you still hold the reins when it comes to discipline and focus. You might choose to set something aside temporarily. But it’s your own choice, you’re making, and it’s still about your goals.

You aren’t taking the disempowering course of seizing upon an excuse to sidestep making a clear choice. Excuses spring from a victim stance and from giving away your power to external forces.

What you need to move forward…

In the end, there is nothing external to you that can “hold you back.”  Your own focus and discipline are all that you need to move forward toward your goals.

I would add that there is nothing magical about discipline.  It isn’t a character trait.  It is a moment-to-moment choice.

The good news? The power is entirely in your hands.

Since being disciplined and staying focused are choices that I remake for myself in each moment, there are plenty of opportunities to exercise these qualities.  AND, the more I practice, the more I habituate myself to making disciplined time choices.

It’s always a choice – but with practice it gets easier and easier to make that choice.

Every choice counts.

On the path toward realizing your goals, each time choice you make is a step. When you choose discipline and focus, you move forward along your path.  When you don’t, you’re stuck.  It’s that simple.

What gets in the way of your focus and discipline?  How can you make different time choices for yourself?

And this helps, too.

Time is pure potential. You decide how to use it; and once you do, it’s gone.

That’s why it’s so important to build on your best time choices.
