How to Prepare for Change and Thrive Every Day

Prepare for change…

When you prepare for change it isn’t as jarring as when it just arrives out of the blue and knocks you off-course.

And yet, even when you prepare for change, unexpected events can still momentarily throw you. And these days, unexpected changes seem to pop up with unnerving frequency.

Still, you’ll be able to respond more effectively and steer your life back on track more quickly if you’ve put some thought and energy into planning ahead of time.

Okay, I’ll prepare for change, but how?

As a first step, consider some sudden changes that could easily occur in your life today.

  • Sudden illness is one that is on many people’s minds these days.
  • The loss of your job could be another.
  • And another might be the closing of your child’s school due to the pandemic.

I’m not suggesting you create fears and worries for yourself. Use this, rather, as a way to stay aware of how you use your time now, and what is most important to you. This gives you a frame, as you prepare for change.

What next?

Next, in a general way, explore some adjustments you could make quickly in any of the above circumstances if life demanded it.

  • Use techniques like visualization. Keep in mind your personal boundaries and self-care needs while accounting for key tasks that need to get done every day.
  • Be as specific and as concrete as possible as you do this. You may be surprised at what you see.

Know thyself…

Delving into this planning exercise helps you clearly re-establish your personal relationship with your time, your priorities, and your values.

From this place of greater clarity, you are in a position to create effective options for managing your time choices when faced with ANY sudden change.  Remember, your relationship with time is not simply about becoming more efficient. It is about knowing yourself, your priorities, and your core values.

How have you managed the sudden changes you’ve already experienced in your life?   What might you want to change?

Here’s more help to prepare for change…

Do you ever feel like change is coming at you too fast, or like it just arrives, uninvited, out of the blue?

I’ve recently been working with a client who was blind-sided by the sudden passing of a long-time co-worker. It’s turned her work life upside down and has also shaken her on a deep and personal level because this co-worker was the same age and also a good friend.

It’s brought up all kinds of big questions, on top of grief, and new work demands. The stresses and questions are piling up and she is feeling disoriented and anxious.

We’ve been working together on this for several weeks now. And today I shared a new time tool with her. I want to share it with you as well.

It’s titled How to Partner with Change and Aging. And to discover more about it right now, you can click here.
