Use the Dropbox Badge to #findtime!
Dropbox is a powerful venue for storing and sharing files easily on the web.
The Dropbox Badge is a nifty new tool – one that we hadn’t really explored here at The Time Finder … yet. But once we learned about it and took a look, we wanted to share it with readers here!
In a nutshell, the Dropbox badge appears on any Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint or Word file that you’ve saved in Dropbox. And what the badge does is give you a very quick way to access a powerful array of features, including (in the free version) the ability to do the following (this list is from the Dropbox support site):
- Instantly share the file you’re working on by clicking Share a link, and the link will automatically be copied to your clipboard. Simply paste the link in an email, chat, or elsewhere to send that file securely to anyone.
- Ask for feedback or contributions on a file by commenting on the file. Click Comment to comment on the file from the Dropbox website.
- View file history to go back in time and find content you’ve already changed or deleted. You can undo changes and restore a previous version of the file.
- Move the badge to wherever you want it to be. You can click and drag the badge anywhere along the border of your files.
- Work better on Microsoft Office files. The badge currently supports Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, on both Mac and Windows devices. For Windows, it supports 2007, 2010, and 2013 Office files. For Mac, it supports 2011 Office files.
NOTE: You’ll need the Dropbox desktop application for the Badge to work for you. Currently the badge is available to all Dropbox for Business users, and it’s being rolled out to Basic users as well. If you’re a basic user, try installing the application to see whether you currently have access. (We needed to re-install our application to update it – and then the badge appeared.)
The badge gives you a very handy way to share, comment, etc. without leaving the document that you’re working on – a big time-saver!
Here’s a quick video that shows how it works:
Do you use Dropbox already? If so, why not explore the Dropbox Badge and see whether it fits into your workflow?
In particular, if you work with a team, this might be something that speeds and clarifies processes – and helps you find time!
