Peaches!
Yes, peach season is upon us. IN fact, we’re in the thick of it, and we’re having a bumper crop here in New Hampshire after last year’s disappointing harvest.
It’s hard to believe we are now looking back at Labor Day. And it feels like I was celebrating the arrival of our blueberries just yesterday.
But now it’s our peaches.
Their fragrance wafts into my office as these September evenings fade into the night. And this is the time of year when we race with our local wildlife. Who’ll get the peaches first? Us, or the bears, raccoons, and deer who are always out there, foraging for sustenance?
Self-care and Peaches
Taking care to nourish myself with food that is as healthy as it is flavorful is one of my core values. Implementing that value requires self-care skills.
So, one of my values is to eat organically. That includes the delicious fruit we grow on the farm. And as part of my self-care practice, I make time to help harvest, prepare, and, yes, eat, those delicious peaches.
Finding the time to do that is not always easy. It requires a level of discipline. It also requires that I come to view self-care as a responsibility, not a luxury.
Peaches and Values
Developing values that nourish your spirit and your energy is one of the most rewarding ways you can honor your life. The things that sustain you, body, mind, and spirit, are vital to your well-being. When you treat them lightly, you send yourself a message about your importance to yourself.
Consider that for a second. Would you want to be in a relationship with someone who is constantly telling you that you really don’t count?
So, what messages are you giving yourself throughout your day?
Do you think you deserve some peaches?
