Replenish Your Energy, One Day, One Moment, at a Time

Replenish your energy.

As the week goes on, do you sometimes find yourself needing to replenish your energy?

By Wednesday or Thursday, are you running out of steam and feeling like you are just hanging on ’til the weekend comes?

When you notice yourself feeling that way it’s a clue that you might want to step back and take stock.

What’s it all about?

The reality is that your moments on one day aren’t any different — and certainly aren’t any less valuable — than your moments on another day. But clearly, as the week goes on, something is eroding your energy and resilience.

So, your first step is to find out what’s happening. That’s the base of any sustainable change. Once you’ve identified the source of the problem, you are then in a position to make different choices. In this case, you’ll replenish your energy, step out of that victim stance, and transform your moments.

Doesn’t that sound like a win-win?

Yes, but how do I re-energize myself?

Well, for starters, you need to find out where your energy is getting lost. So, here are 3 questions to help you get to the bottom of that:

  • Do you set clear objectives or an agenda at the beginning of the day?
  • Do you delegate power to those who can’t or won’t fulfill your expectations?
  • Do you assume that the day will progress like the day before, and then feel overwhelmed by sudden changes?

Addressing question #2

If you are in a position of needing to depend on someone who is undependable, that is a problem that a choice to replenish your energy won’t fully address.

What’s needed to deal with issue #2 involves either changing your choice to delegate or changing the person you’re delegating to. When you address that, your energy drain and stress in this area will clearly decrease.

Let’s focus on #1 and #3.

If you’re like many people, you may often start the week with an idea of your agenda for the coming days. These are plans and priorities that you have set for yourself.

And, if you are like many people, the days that follow often bring changes to your agenda.

No matter how often you tell yourself that this is expected, it’s still frustrating when this happens. Do you respond with surprise and discouragement when your plans and priorities are overturned by life events? If so, don’t worry — it’s not unusual.

And what that means, in practice, is that as the week goes on, you may be feeling quite a bit less in charge of your time than you did when it started.  This is an energetic challenge.

So, do you slide into a victim stance at this point?

Replenish your energy instead.

One thing that I find very helpful when I am feeling this way is to resize my thinking.  I focus on the day rather than the week.

Whatever part of the week you are experiencing, you still have the same 24 hours to work with as you did the day before.  What is your agenda for this particular day?

You reclaim your power and replenish your energy by stepping away from thinking of Thursday as the-day-before-the-day-before-the-weekend.  Think of Thursday as a precious string of moments that are yours to shape.

Why? Because the way you use your time is the way you live your life.

How do you feel by the time Wednesday or Thursday or Friday rolls around?  Are there time choices you could change for yourself to help restore, revitalize and replenish your energy right now?

Here’s something more…

Time is pure potential.

You decide how to use it; and once you do, it’s gone.  That’s why it’s so important to build on your best time choices.
