Self-care is nourishment for you.

Finding time for you isn’t self-indulgent. Think of it as practical nourishment. In fact, it’s one of the best productivity and stress management tools you can ever find.

And yet, self-care is often seen as selfish. It’s a misperception, and it’s very damaging.

So, do you want to find time to make the most of the 24 hours that you have each day?

Well, here’s a tip that will help!

Build in some replenishing and rejuvenating time for yourself at least once, each and every day.

This may sound simple, and in some ways it is. But following through on this powerful nourishment for your soul can be quite a challenge.

Why is it so difficult to follow through on taking care of yourself?

It’s because we tend to view self-care as a luxury.

A more useful and realistic perspective sees self-care for what it truly is – a fundamental responsibility.

If you don’t feed yourself, you don’t have fuel for what you need to do.

Likewise, if you’re not taking care of yourself, your ability to be present in each moment is severely compromised. This, in turn, depletes your ability to respond to others, to complete tasks, to problem solve creatively, and to participate fully and productively in your life.

Think about it…

Lack of self-care affects everything from the quality of your energy to the perspective that you bring to bear on life’s challenges. So what helps?

Well, think about the nourishment of self-care as something that you fully own. Then, you see that it’s your responsibility to:

  • Identify activities that you find replenishing and rejuvenating.
  • Create time boundaries so that you include those activities in your life each day.
  • Follow through, when you promised yourself you would, and pursue your chosen self-nurturing activity.

Bring your best, always…

Indeed, it’s our ultimate responsibility to strive to bring our best selves to each and every one of our moments. And self-care is the key component in doing that.

Each of our moments is a gift, and the rest is our responsibility. So, step back and think about it:

  • How do you find time to take care of yourself?
  • What gets in the way of your follow-through?
  • How do other people or tasks hijack your self-care time?
  • What do you learn?
