Slowing yourself down doesn’t mean you’ll lose time and energy — you’ll find it.
This is a fact of life. But are you afraid to try it out?
Life can often feel like it’s zipping by in fast forward. We feel obliged to accelerate our own speed along with it until our productivity turns into frenzied accomplishment.
We find ourselves cramming as much activity as possible into the shortest periods of time. We disregard our natural rhythms because it seems we have to just to keep up. In truth, rushing never gets you anywhere but on to the next activity or goal.
Slowing Yourself Down to Do More
Time management tips often focus on getting more done in less time, and these strategies can definitely work in the short term. But using them all the time is depleting. Eventually the losses outweigh the gains as your energy and focus are diminished, right along with your productivity.
When you reconnect mindfully with yourself and your environment, it’s like plugging into an energy outlet, recharging body, mind and spirit.
Slowing yourself down is as nourishing to you, energetically, as vegetables and proteins are for your physical systems. You get more done when you have more energy. And you replenish your energy when you slow down.
It’s really that simple.
And there’s more to it…
When you slow down, you see, hear, taste, and feel more—that’s savoring your time. And the more deeply you explore your connections by slowing down, the more you receive back. It’s a relationship of reciprocity between every atom of your being and every atom of your world.
The possibilities are deep and endlessly expansive. One door opens, then another, and another, as you discover the richness of each moment.
Here are some quotes to ponder as you slow down and reflect on how you live within time:
- “For fast-acting relief, try slowing down.” –Lily Tomlin
- “It is important from time to time to slow down, to go away by yourself, and simply be.” –Eileen Caddy
- “Always remember to slow down in life; live, breathe, and learn; take a look around you whenever you have time and never forget everything and every person that has the least place within your heart.” –Anonymous
- “Slow down and enjoy life. It’s not only the scenery you miss by going too fast-you also miss the sense of where you are going and why.” –Eddie Cantor
- “If you’re having difficulty coming up with new ideas, then slow down. For me, slowing down has been a tremendous source of creativity. It has allowed me to open up — to know that there’s life under the earth and that I have to let it come through me in a new way. Creativity exists in the present moment. You can’t find it anywhere else.” –Natalie Goldberg
- “Slow down, and everything you are chasing will come around and catch you.” –John De Paola
