Special Celebrations Add Spice and Depth to Your Life

Savor your life
Savor special celebrations…

Special celebrations are ever-deepening gifts that you give to yourself and your family and friends.

So, what are the special celebrations in your life?

Well, they might be holidays that are marked in your country or your faith.

Or they might be personal events that are significant to you, your friends, or your family. These would include things like birthdays, graduations, and anniversaries of important events or accomplishments.

A Tip for Special Celebrations:

Each season brings its own special celebrations.  So schedule ample time for these events, and savor your life fully.

Whether their focus is personal or communal, special celebrations often involve particular rituals and traditions.

  • Maybe Grandpa always reads at the Seder, his voice becoming part of the weave of holiday memories.
  • Or maybe it’s Aunt Jane’s recipe for the Easter Ham.
  • Or maybe your family has adapted a special birthday song for its celebrations.

Our lives are enriched and colored by the details of our special celebrations. And when we take time to fully experience and enjoy them, we give ourselves an incalculable gift.

Action Steps for Keeping It Special:

  • Create a yearly list of recurring events, such as birthdays, anniversaries and vacations.
  • Plan your celebrations well in advance.
  • Block out time to prepare, celebrate and wind down.

These three steps are each key, and planning time for them will always enrich your experience.  This is especially true if you are directly responsible for part of the celebration.

Feelings count.

And remember, your up-front time may involve preparing yourself emotionally. Our friendships and family relations are not always simple or straightforward.  So be sure to leave time for reflection, letting go, and other emotional work. Ultimately, that work clears the way for a fuller appreciation of the present moment.

Leave space for it all.

Blocking out plenty of time for your special celebration and leaving time at the end for debriefing with yourself is also key.

When you make time for each element in this process you give yourself space to savor and honor the life that you have made. This also deepens your experience, leaving you with richer memories, and fewer regrets, as the years go by.

So, how do you make time for your celebrations now?

What changes would you like to make?
