There are solutions to being stressed and you hold the key!

When you’re stressed it’s very difficult to access your energy, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

This generally increases feelings of overwhelm, creating stress on top of stress. Not a helpful scenario!

And feeling stressed is pretty much a fact of life today. Even if you love your job, there will be days when you experience stress. Many people let stress get the best of them, but you don’t have to.

You can learn to cope with workplace stress and actually use it to move you forward instead of holding you back.

Stressed at Work? You’re Not Alone

When you’re stressed out about your work, you may feel like you are on an island all by yourself. But did you know that as many as a quarter of the people you work with right now feel like work is the biggest contributor to their stress? It is also thought that three quarters of employees feel as though they have more on-the-job stress than their parents ever did.

So this feeling isn’t unique to you – everyone experiences it! Sometimes just knowing this is enough to help you get through to the other side so you can start feeling better.

The good news is that whether you go to work or work from your home, there are things you can do to address and reduce the stress in your working life.

Solutions to That Stressed Feeling

Here are some solutions to the stress you feel about your work:

  • Letting the little things go,
  • Proactively balancing work and family life, and
  • Creating a support network of friends, family, and/or co-workers.

Letting Things Go

The fact is, when you allow yourself to take a more relaxed and positive view of the world, it will actually become a lot more relaxed and positive. Things that would have stressed you out before will now roll off your back and you can see more clearly what is important and what you can let go of. It’s not that you no longer experience stress; it’s just that with a more positive perspective, you can make choices based on your more accurate sense of proportion. Stress can be a motivator rather than something that victimizes you.

Finding Work-Life Balance

When work takes over our lives, that’s usually when we become stressed out and have difficulty coping. So make sure that you engage in daily activities that do not involve work, even if it’s simply reading a chapter of your favorite book or picking up the phone to call a friend. When you allow your work life to consume you, stress will consume you too. In turn, you’ll become less efficient and effective at your job.

Listen to Your Support Network

Make sure you have a support network of friends and family members who will remind you that there are plenty of things to do that aren’t related to your work. This support network  also helps keep you grounded when you might otherwise be tightly wound with work-related stress.

It’s true that stress is a part of life, but that doesn’t mean it needs to consume you. Stress will come and go, but you can always make time choices that enhance your ability to cope.

See, there’s always some good news – and today it’s the fact that feeling stressed doesn’t have to be a constant in your life!
