Stuck Today? A Perspective Shift Helps

Change of view
Stuck today? Change your view…

If you’re feeling stuck today, you don’t have to stay there.

I want to tell you about a simple shift that will surprise you with its power, and that makes all the difference.

It has to do with your perspective — how it affects you, and how you are in a position to make choices about it.

Your perspective is a powerful thing. Changing it doesn’t just change how you see. It changes what you see and how you feel about it.

Your ‘Stuck Today’ Test

Here’s a quick test about perspective.

Do you feel stuck today? Stuck about something right now in this moment? Well, think of something that you’ve got your heels dug in about, or something that has you totally overwhelmed.

Now, visualize it.  It doesn’t matter what it is, and you don’t have to be literal.  Just use your imagination to give it a color and size and shape.

Next, grab a piece of paper and quickly draw what you see.

It might just look like a great big purple blob. That’s fine.

Next step…

Next, visualize yourself standing next to whatever-it-is-that-has-you-stuck-today.  Don’t worry about capturing a likeness.  Again, use your imagination to capture your color, size, and shape.

Take that piece of paper and add yourself to the picture.

If you’re like me, whatever-it-is-that-has-you-stuck-today is going to be larger, more imposing, and probably a stronger color than YOU are in the drawing.  And this is a great place for making a powerful shift.

YOU can easily change your perspective and feel empowered.

Here’s how…

Take your piece of paper, turn it over, and redo your drawing.

Only this time, make YOURSELF bigger and brighter than whatever-it-is-that-has-you-stuck-today.

Then take 3 deep breaths and really look at your drawing.  Assimilate the power shift and let yourself take in the feeling.

This is just a small, simple example of how you can shift from a victim stance to an empowered position by changing your perspective.  It’s an excellent visual to use whenever you are feeling overwhelmed.

What do you learn?

The fundamental lesson here is that feeling empowered or disempowered is really a choice that we make.  And depending on how we choose, life and all of its possibilities are going to feel very different to us.

So, when is the last time you shifted your perspective to feel empowered and find more time?

I encourage you to try it the next time you feel stuck; and let me know how it goes, because I’d really love to hear.
