Time Challenges Tripping You Up? This Helps.

African Proverb
Did you trip over a time challenge?

Dealing with time challenges can sometimes feel like a race around countless roadblocks that pop up, can’t it?

And some of the trickiest obstacles you’re likely to encounter as you journey through your day are time challenges that almost feel like they have personalities of their own.

I’ve called them time gremlins in the past. These challenges feel like crafty trouble-makers. And they can be hard to see, so they seem to trip you up when you least expect it.

But the good news is that whether you call them time challenges or time gremlins, the power to address them is entirely in your hands.

Give your time challenges a voice.

It’s the hidden things that trip you up. What you are able to see and hear, you are able to address.

So try thinking of the time challenges you experience in your day as the voices of your time issues.  Whatever you find most challenging, when it comes to time management, has information to share.

You know you’ve bumped up against something important when one of your time challenges:

  • Sabotages your priorities,
  • Tangles your plans, or
  • Spoils your pleasure in your time choices.

And because they’re hidden, your time challenges may run riot. That is until you intercept them.

Patience helps with time challenges.

This is hard work, and you will advance. Take it one tiny step at a time. As you become more and more skilled in recognizing the voices of these challenges, you’ll be very pleased with the results. So let’s look more closely at this.

Well, for starters you need to know where to look.  These challenges usually take root and grow in your blind spots.  Things like unexamined feelings and ideas about time are their fertile soil.

Think about ideas or messages that you’ve carried from childhood.  Wishful thinking also provides a fertile breeding ground for these challenges.

Don’t give up.

Bottom line: Time challenges are universal. And they feel like they’re outside your control. But they aren’t, of course. Once you recognize the voices and messages that fuel your challenges you’re well on your way to success.

So, when your plans mysteriously lose momentum or direction, you can assume that there’s a message there for you. Pay particular attention to the times when you can’t put a finger on what went wrong. Jotting down a few sentences will help you recall the incident. Then you can go back and harvest important information when you have the time.
