Your time choices define your path.
Time choices — the ones you make in each moment of your day — may seem very small and insignificant sometimes.
But they make all the difference in the world.
In the most concrete way possible, these everyday decisions define your path. And this happens incrementally — often without your even noticing. That’s why it’s so important not to underestimate the importance of each choice that you make.
Indeed, Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Not Taken” can be seen as being about your time choices.
Remember? The poem ends with: “And that has made all the difference.”
The Fundamental Importance of Your Time Choices
The other day I wrote about how powerfully our time choices affect the course our lives take.
You see, the thing is that life has no dress rehearsals or instant replays. We’ve grown accustomed, I think, to the idea of do-overs. So, it can be scary to assimilate the fundamental importance of each moment.
This is especially so when it’s coupled with the knowledge that we can’t control time. You don’t hear a lot about “time management” from me. Managing your energy, yes. Making clear, grounded, values-driven time choices, yes. But time management? No.
You Manage Your Choices, Not Your Time
We can’t “manage time” no matter how much we may wish we could. The good news is that we absolutely CAN manage our choices around time. This is where your real power lies, and it is within each of our grasps!
I can’t control time, but through proactive time choices I can, to a great degree, shape my time, the content and quality of my moments, and ultimately, my path.
Time is pure potential. You decide how to use it; and once you do, it’s gone. That’s why it’s so important to build on your best time choices!
