Vacation Time – Timely Tips to Free Yourself for the Fun!

Packed for vacation

Vacation time tips help you relax and enjoy!

Are you finding time for a vacation this year?

I hope so, because no matter how busy or stressed you are, stepping away for some vacation time restores your energy and provides a fresh outlook.

And if you’re a busy parent, you know that “vacations” can  sometimes feel as busy or busier than other times. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

It’s important that vacation time be rejuvenating for you, as well as for your family … and there are some simple things that you can do to make that happen for yourself.

So let’s take a look at 5 things you can do ahead-of-time, to make sure that you can relax and join fully in the vacation fun!

1. Be clear about your priorities.

When you know your priorities you can create opportunities for yourself. What are your top priorities for vacation time?

  • Take a few moments and think about this vacation. Picture yourself at the beginning of your time. Write down 5-10 things that you would really like to do, or experience during your vacation.
  • Next, picture yourself at the end of your time. Then look again at your list. Put an asterisk next to the 3-5 things that you would be especially sad about not doing. These are your priorities for your time off.
  • It’s a good idea to keep the number of priorities low, otherwise, ironically, you could just be adding to your stress.

2. Remember, the journey is part of the fun, too.

If your vacation involves travel, estimate how much time that will take. Consider how you and the rest of your family manage traveling.

  • Should the trip be broken up into lots of pieces (with young children this is a good idea)?
  • Are there favorite games that you’ll want to plan on playing?
  • Will you enjoy or just tolerate time between locations? Plan accordingly.
  • Is it an option to meander, relax and discover out-of-the-way treats?
  • Could varying your modes of transportation on a long trip add to the experience?
