Validate Your Efforts with Your Very Own Oscars

give yourself credit
Yes, validate yourself.

So, why validate yourself?

Well, when you congratulate yourself and affirm your efforts, you give yourself a significant gift.

And the good news is that you can validate yourself anytime.

It definitely doesn’t have to just be during Oscar season.  Your own positive regard, all year long, is vital. It gives you a solid foundation for exploring your talents, taking risks, and living your moments to their fullest.

Do you validate others?

I bet you often acknowledge and validate the accomplishments of your friends, co-workers, and children. That’s because you know it’s an important motivator.

But do you think to give the same positive strokes to yourself? Probably not. Maybe you even think it would be selfish or unseemly.

Indeed, self-validation just isn’t part of our repertoire.

But step back and think about it.

You know how powerful The Attitude of Gratitude is. You’ve seen how it can quite literally change how you perceive and respond to things.  So how about giving yourself a pat on the back for something, every day?

It doesn’t have to be a huge thing. As you’ve learned with gratitude, it’s the shift in consciousness that has the most significant big impact.

Try it and see.

As with gratitude, once you begin to validate yourself with love and appreciation, you’ll not be lacking for things to feel good about.

  • Maybe it was taking that walk or run you had been meaning to get to all week.
  • Or maybe you connected with a friend you hadn’t seen in a while, or paid some bills, or cleaned out your inbox.
  • Perhaps you sat quietly or played a game of Hearts with your daughter.
  • Or maybe you took time for yourself and went to a movie.

So, validate away…

In many ways, the details don’t matter. It’s focusing on and naming something about YOU that you feel good about each day that’s key.

Not only will that have a profound impact on your energy, it will also help you open your heart wide to the WHOLE of you.  Your inner critic will hold less sway in your life, and you’ll be less afraid to look with clear eyes at your choices and values.

So, try setting aside time to give a validation yourself at the start or end of your day. Create a practice similar to what you may already be doing with your gratitudes.

You could write your validation(s) down. That not only gives you a boost in the moment. It also creates a record of self-validation to look back on as the days and weeks progress.

So, how will you get started today? Give it a try, and pay attention to changes in your energy and perspective.

In the end, you may not have an Oscar on your mantle, but you’ll feel (and act) more and more like the winner that you are.

And here’s more help:

We all have voices that chatter at us throughout the day. The Inner Critic is one of them. Learning to recognize (and counter) this destructive voice is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself.

You see, the Inner Critic is a negative, debilitating and constant presence in your life.  And it’s not just the words. It’s the judgmental tone, the rolling eyes, and the scolding wag of the index finger. Beyond sapping your energy and confidence, your Inner Critic robs you of time and profoundly distorts how you see others and how you feel about yourself. So, what can you do?
