Here’s a Vectr image that my VA created in just a few minutes.
Vectr is a free, cross-platform graphics editor that was released just a couple of weeks ago.
If you’re someone who works with graphics this is a tool that’s specifically geared to creating vector graphics.
But, you ask, what are vector graphics? Well, these are graphics based on mathematics. The shapes are created using points, lines and curves. Fonts and logos are good examples of vector graphics.
Vectr for Vector Graphics
So, what about Vectr? Well, it’s not aimed at high-end graphic designers, but more at the everyday user with some basic knowledge. One of the nice things about it is that you can work with it on your desktop or access it via your web browser. So you’re able to work with it no matter where you are.
And wherever you’re working with it, I think you’ll find this a flexible, user-friendly tool for creating simple, clean graphics. It’s ideal for designing things like mock-ups of webpages, logos, sharp-edged artistic illustrations, cartoons, clip art, technical illustrations, diagrams and flow-charts. And you can save your work online, share it with others, and export it to file formats like PNG, JPG, etc.
Here’s a brief video that gives you a glimpse of how Vectr works:
Vectr vs. the Others
As noted before, Vectr is aimed at the everyday user and is helpfully intuitive. Other, more high-end vector graphic tools tend to have a steep (and sometimes intimidating) learning curve. Vectr strives to be understandable while maintaining as much utility as possible.
So, while professional designers may gravitate toward higher end design tools, most average users will find here all the features they need to get started.
The software has been in development for two years and has just now come out of beta. Desktop versions are available for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chromebook. They work in exactly the same way as the web-based version.
So, this looks to be a very usable and useful tool. If you’d like to learn more, take a look at the tutorials and User Guide that Vectr offers.
