Writing Ideas — 3 Tips to Help Keep Your Writing Energy Fresh

Writing ideas may come when you step away…

Writing ideas don’t always come easily. In fact, making time to create content and keep it fresh, focused, interesting, and relevant can be a big challenge, don’t you agree?

I’ve been writing here at The Time Finder for many years now, and I’d like to share 3 tips, today, that I’ve found very helpful. If writing is a key component of your business, or if a writing career is something that you aspire to, I hope you’ll read on.

You see, it’s true that writing ideas don’t grow on trees. But you have, right inside of you, everything that you need to start and maintain your writing life. I find that it’s often less a matter of ‘getting’ writing ideas than of relaxing and letting them bubble up.  Cultivate a receptive mindset. This will stand you in good stead. And next, incorporate these 3 tips into your life:

  • Establish a Writing Schedule for Yourself
  • Remember that Slow and Steady Wins the Race
  • Write About What You Know

One more thing about writing ideas…

Even beyond these keys, the fourth, and perhaps most important tip is to invest time in staying refreshed.

This can be hard to do, especially when you are working under pressure or within time constraints.  But I can’t emphasize it enough.

When you allow yourself the time and space to stay fresh you are going to be much more productive. Stress and fatigue block your creativity and your receptive mindset. The writing ideas simply don’t flow, and you end up spending more time and getting less done.

It takes discipline to step away.

Don’t think of it as self-indulgent to refresh yourself. It’s your responsibility as a writer.

You may need to experiment to find what works best for you.  Maybe it will be going for a run or doing some stretches.  It might be meditating, or doing some kind of free-flow writing exercise, or visiting your garden to do some weeding.

Whatever you find that gives you a break and allows you to return to your work refreshed and energized is time well spent.

I hope this post was helpful, and would love to hear about how you’ll refresh yourself and your writing routine, starting today.
