Your Acceptance Opens You to New Possibilities, No Matter What

Your acceptance always helps.

Your acceptance of whatever comes your way is a powerful base for your action.

It opens you to what’s possible, so you can navigate change successfully.

Indeed, your acceptance of the things that you cannot change is one of the fundamental principles of 12-Step Programs. And it is also a key ingredient in making wise and well-grounded time choices.

The Serenity Prayer and your acceptance…

Many have come to know this concept through its expression in what is known as The Serenity Prayer:

Grant me serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.

Acceptance is important in a wide range of situations.  Maybe you are responding to a sudden (and unwelcome) change. The pandemic is a good example of coping with such a change on a global level. Or perhaps you are dealing with a more everyday annoyance like a string of rainy days while you are on vacation.

In all cases, your acceptance of what is provides the base for moving ahead in your life with full access to your energy and creativity.

What do you do on a rainy day while on vacation? Do you suffer and complain or do you make the best of it and create your own good time?

What’s your energy like?

Like many things in life, you can’t control the weather but you have complete control over how you deal with it. So, the energy you bring to a situation affects how you see it and, ultimately, how it plays out for you.

Acceptance moves your energy away from fighting against reality. And it frees up your creativity and problem-solving skill-set for adapting and exploring new terrain.  Your choices help you transform the change, whether it’s a mundane annoyance or a scary crisis, into new opportunities.

It’s not magic, but your acceptance is key.

Of course, there is often plenty of work involved, too, in transforming crises into opportunities.  Acceptance reframes the entire situation so that the work can become proactive, expansive, and creative. And that makes a huge difference in your outcomes.

How do you sometimes struggle with acceptance?

Where do you find this especially challenging?

What gets in your way, and how will you remove one obstacle to your acceptance today?
