Your spring chores await. So, how do you feel about that?
Do they loom as just more to do? Or do you look forward to them?
Indeed, welcoming spring is partly a matter of opening windows, letting sunlight stream into the house, watching bulbs come up, and enjoying the returning birds.
And it’s also a time when we are energized to tackle spring projects. Some of them are seasonal and some may be brand new.
Your spring chores and your energy…
The leavings of winter can, on first blush, look simply like chaos and disorder. Here in New Hampshire, when spring arrives we see what was buried under the snow.
What did ice and winter winds bring down from the trees? It can be a tangled mess. However, it’s important to not match the energy of the chaos.
So, what works best is to approach chaos with calm confidence and a sense of peacefulness. This prevents wasted energy, burnout, and discouragement.
As I look out into our woods and fields I can see all the leaves and branches that are winter’s detritus. There’s always a lot to clean up, and sometimes we discover that we’ve lost some much-loved trees.
Each spring we discover how the woods have been changed. And we notice how the light shifts and expands. New underbrush springs up where the canopy has been culled.
Make it easier for yourself.
Not all spring tasks are challenging. It’s important to mix the hard work with easier chores. And with any task, strive to bite off small bits and take it one step at a time.
In addition, it’s important to check in with yourself regularly. This helps to maintain momentum and avoid burnout, no matter what the task or the time challenge.
So, what kinds of chores are on your plate this spring? How do you manage your time and your energy as you move into the new season?
And how will you make it easier for yourself this spring?
