Find Time to Connect with Questions and Answers on Quora

Ready to Connect with Quora?

Finding Time to connect via the various social-networking venues is time well spent.  So, is Quora a social-networking venue that you’ll want to be investing your time in?

Well, for starters, let’s answer one, very basic question:  What is Quora?

It’s a place where questions are asked, and answered, by users in an ever-evolving cache of information and knowledge.  Here’s how Quora describes Quora on their “About” page:

Quora is a continually improving collection of questions and answers created, edited, and organized by everyone who uses it. The most important thing is to have each question page become the best possible resource for someone who wants to know about the question.

Kyle Lacey has written a post titled “8 Tips for Using Quora” that gives a nice overview of this tool and how you might be able to use it.  What I find most interesting about this tool is that it is people-based and generates a fund of knowledge that is continually being improved and reshaped by its contributors.

If you are an on-line entrepreneur, it’s another social venue where you can offer quality content, and thereby gain exposure and authority for your brand.  And with the addition of Quora to Google Realtime Search, the usefulness of this tool for marketers just made a big leap!

Quora used to have a policy against self promotion, but recently changed that … which opens things up for spammers, but also allows small businesses a genuine opportunity to become better known on the web.  As this question-and-answer venue evolves, it will be fascinating to see how it deals with the challenges that growth presents!

I look forward to exploring Quora myself, in the coming weeks.  Here’s their answer to the burning question:  “How do I get started using Quora?

1. Start by setting up a good feed.

  • Your activity feed has recent activity about content that interests you. You can view your feed by going to the home page.
  • You can build a good feed by following and searching for topicspeople, and questions.
  • Topics: When you follow a topic, questions and answers tagged with that topic will appear in your feed
  • People. When you follow people, you will see questions and answers posted by these people in your feed.
  • Questions: When you follow a question, you will see activity about that question in your news feed (example: when a new answer is posted on the question).
  • The easiest first step: start by following some topics that you care about and some people who write about them.
  • You can also read some interesting questions to get a feel for the site.
